FYI:

My '08 Coupe has a situation I think you would like to avoid so I will tell the tale.

When cleaning my car I notices small black dots across the back of the car and even on the tail lights. I though maybe I just ran over something and it was dirt. I tried to clean it without success (I stopped at Polishing Compound). Next stop, my body shop guy.

He looks at it and tries clay bar, and then tells me the black dots are etched in the paint and lights. :(

He says I must repaint!

When he started to take the car apart and discovered that the battery was leaking battery acid and blowing up the back of the car!

So check your batteries! He is also replacing my battery with a Gel Battery, whatever that is.

Dodge is picking up the tab under warranty.

Do not know what caused the situation.

Fortunately I do not need to repaint the strips as they are special, thick paint.

Don't know if your situation could be the same, but I had battery acid damage after "aggressive" driving on my GTS. The battery acid apparently found a way out of a vent in high G turns. Same aggressive driving also resulted in pits in the paint on rear panel due to pieces of the cats being blown out and coming back up onto the paint. All was taken care of under warranty. I guess the moral of the story is that even maintenance free batteries have vents... Good luck with the gel-cell.
