Choice: bucking or partial throttle?

I have a '96 GTS, and have problems getting the throttle linkage adjusted to give me Both full throttle (left AND right) and smooth performance. I cannot have both, it seems. If I adjust the linkage for full bore on both sides, it bucks badly. I can eliminate the bucking by backing off on the passenger side throttle body adjustment, to allow the passenger side to come in later, but this causes an eight of an inch of throttle to be lost on the passenger side. Is this caused by the throttle cable being stretched, or is the slack or play in the crossover bar between the throttle bodies the culprit? There IS a little play in that part of the linkage between the throttle bodies, but I don't know if there is an adjustment to eliminate this slack or freeplay. The car has 27,000 miles, and is in pretty good shape otherwise. I have smooth tubes, K&N's, Row VE1 computer, performance cats, and 3" exhaust. It is pretty strong, but has this linkage quirk. Anyone have a suggestion? Could a Viper tech be the solution, or is there something I can do? Thanks.

A bucking Viper is not always throttle linkage. That's just the easiest and most affordable fix.

Second is the plugs at $1.25 each. You're Viper has 27,000 miles on it, it's getting very near time to change them. Get the stock replacement Champions and see if that eliminates the bucking.

If it still bucks then check the wires and make sure they are secure and not worn. Their time will come between 30K and 40K miles. Sooner for a 96 because of age.

Let us know what you find out.

That's correct you can't have both. There is a spec for the gap between the left and right TB one opens slightly before the other. This is to prevent the jerking at low speeds.

I have new plugs and plug wires, and have checked the connectors to insure snug fits. I do seem to have a slight miss in the GTS when driving at a steady speed, but I suspect this is unrelated to the bucking at slow speeds. My Gen. I, '94 RT/10 could be adjusted to achieve full throttle and no bucking at the same time, and the new Gen. II linkage was supposed to be an improvement? Anyone else with a 1/8 inch gap in the passenger side stop at full bore? I thought this was too big a gap to be "normal".
