Were talking about exciting and exotics sports cars here. ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzO6’s are at another forum.

Last time I ran my car the 1/4 mile at the track, some guy in a super charged vette with slicks worked himself next to me in line. He faster, but not by much and every time we would come back around in line there would be a crowd of people standing around the Viper asking me questions. It didn’t matter that the vette next to me with his hood up to cool off the motor was faster it was still just another vette.

wow these are the best pics ive ever seen of the new coupe. the new coupe looks alot more meaner and aggressive, and more exotic (which i really like). the gts looks curvy and and very original. but even though i really love the way they both look, i think i like the new coupe more. just because it looks meaner and more updated than the gts

I love all of the pictures especially the red/white GTS next to the red/silver Coupe. I still prefer the GTS rear end because the Coupe looks like a cheap knock off of the original. I do think the Coupe looks much better than the vert especially with the new rims.

The entire Gen III line was redesigned just for the sake of change with a little wind tunnel work. I would have preferred if DC followed Porsches formula of design keeping design changes more a matter of function and sticking with the original concept. All Porsches still look unmistakably like Porsches regardless of the year.

If I was to buy a brand new car right now it would be a Coupe before any other brand new sports car in the price range including the Z06 but my next purchase will be a Gen IV Viper if its styled well and has the hp increase or a GTS.

He was referring to "Wanted", not you. Wanted changes his mind weekly, depending on what he just bought.

WANTED has a mind? LOL! :) And he just dumped 2 SRTs in a row for an RT10? And he thinks the GTS is UGLY? Perhaps he has LOST his mind!! :D

let me restate this, hate is a very strong word, i dont hate the gts i just dont
like the looks of it for myself. JMHO. most of you who know me can attest that i
love the sun so my fun cars need to be *******.(for now :D )next week i could
end up buying a coupe and all that change's.lol. i must laugh when i see guys
stating (like its fact) what others are thinking. just from my experience's
when talking to people who do not own a viper pretty much group all of them as
one car (rt/10, gts, srt/10) mainly its a VIPER. maybe we should all remember
that. some of what i read from these post (the gts guys) when describing their
gts, i could just **** :D to me its NOT A ICON.

NOW THE CAR, VIPER ( THATS THE ICON ) :2tu: AGAIN JMHO

one last thing, a few of these gts guys come in the srt site and just bash the
living chit out the srt/10 (hurting people's feelings, hurting pricing, causing
bad feelings between the gen I/II & the genIII guys, adding NOTHING but bad carma
to the site) now look how fast their behind puckered up when OH MY GOD someone
thinks my car is ugly. i didn't say ugly, i said fugly but should have said
FRICKEN FUGLY. :D

that coupe looks SOOOOOOOOOOO much better then the gts its unreal. :2tu:

very nice looking viper :headbang:

for the gts lovers these pics speak a thousand words. there is no way anyone
can convince me the new coupe takes a back seat to the gts, it just makes the gts
look very dated. just have a look at the rear of the two side by side, that gts
looks fugly next to it. i must admit i have never been a gts fan but man what a
difference, i will definitely have a new coupe in the future. :2tu:

tom
God Tom your so full of sh*t your eyes have got to be brown. That coupe in no way comes close to the GTS thus the GTS still retains it's crown as the baddest Viper to date. It is nicer than your girly RT-10 though!!! Tom you have a major complex issue. It must be all those cruises you take with other GTS's and nobody notices your RT-10. :D

lets see ( weak ass, beafcake, prozac, bonehead ) and who's looking for trouble?
talking to you is the same as talking with my 16 year son, your so far away from
the original issue just to cover your arss from what you started in here. you
buddy are the one who comes into the gen III section with your insults. many have
posted what they think of you, i only posted what i think of your car ( hit a
nerve did i ). you stated you were out of here so why do we still see you posting.
we all here should have seen just from your sig(YOU WISH) what were dealing with.
from what you have show us to this point you are without question the MOST INSECURE
PERSON ON THIS FORM. now do us all a favor and do what you said, LEAVE.

We should all be enjoying the evolution of the Viper.
I love all Vipers just that funds don't let you have
all.Especially during these high gas prices putting out a
v10 engine may not last too long.I think the new coupe looks
pretty dang nice.Getting together at viper meets there will
be a more diverse group of cars should be lots of fun.Lets
face it the Viper evokes lots of passion no matter what the year.

Colors make a huge difference to the perception of shape, curves, shadows, and lines of a car. I would need to see a 06 coupe next to a GTS of similar color scheme. Coupe does look wonderful though.

945706coupea.JPG

There is not much comparison here, the GTS is simply a cooler looking car. The one guy up there obviously hates the GTS, nothing wrong with having an opinion. Here is mine, the GTS will never look dated because it has a retro design incorporating several dated times.

Time will be the only thing to prove me wrong, no viper is revered by the general public more than the GTS, that includes the rt10, when you say viper, people think GTS. Nothing has happened to change that.....yet.

The curves are so much nicer on the GTS, the new coupe looks like an overgrown hunk of soap sitting next to a Viper. Personally, I would much rather have the srt vert, it's a much nicer looking car.

Let me start off by saying that any generation of viper 1,2, or 3 are all fantastic looking cars, so I don't think you can classify any of them as Fugly, An 80's fiero, now thats fugly. I totally agree that the GTS and the RT have a timeless design. I have always loved the look of the mid late 90's diablo's, but put one next to a Murcielago, and it looks very dated. Its the angular design that i think gives it that dated look. 80's and 90's corvettes have the same angular hard edge look that can make them look old. Im sure 10 years from now the Murcielago will look dated. Same can be said when you put a Countach next to a Diablo, it looks old. The extremely defined and flowing curves of the GTS and RT are so unlike any other recent car i can think of. Look at Silohette of a gts and then a gen 3, the GTS wins hands down in looks. The gen 3's are awesome looking, but I dont think they have the same class of design that went into the gen 1,2's. When people think Viper they think gen 1 and 2, and i honestly believe that it is pretty much impossible to top the original design. The new coupe at certain angles like the back, looks like it could be something else, something non exotic. People stop my dad all the time in his 93 with gen 3 wheels and ask him if it is new. People ask me if my 98 is new. Mind you these arent viper owners but still. How many people would confuse a mid 90's corvette for being a new one??... thats right none. The Gen 1,2's ran their course for 11 years, and needed to change. Dodge cant make the same car forever. With all that being said I can't wait to see the new coupe

DC should just spin off the Viper into its own company. They should offer 2 lines: a "Classic" and a "Modern" in a vert and coupe... 4 cars altogether. Same frames and engines, but different bodies with the Classic in the gen1/2 body and the Modern changes every 3-4 years. A guy can dream, right?

Why not? Porsche has been doing it forever. LOL!!

True lol. Guess it wasnt the most intelligent thing to make the front end of their 150 grand 911TT look so similar to the Boxster. Only Porsche i would walk across the street to look at would be the GT.

That actually happened with a boat company, Fountain. The early model built in the 80's was called the Executioner. In the 90's they improved the hull significantly with first a single and then a twin step and updated the deck design. The old deck design was so popular that they brought it back and put it on the new hull and now sell it side by side with the new model, sometimes they call it the "Classic." And if anyone has been following the old muscle car market, the latest thing is the "Resto Rod", original body over a newer frame, suspension and brakes etc. So, maybe it could happen. But it will probably happen in the aftermarket. But if someone is going to that trouble, could we make the Comp Coupe street legal first, puleeeze?

It would be nice if a new design was just that - new. But when you take the rounded roof of the GTS and the same tail lights and tack them on the squared off Coupe you get a Frankenstien model.
I was looking forward to the new coupe with HP gains. ( hemi head and dry sump would be nice) But with the shots being called by clueless executives from Europe, I don't hold much hope the Viper will be continued much more than a couple of years.

The design is in the eye of the beholder and we CERTAINLY know your opinion on that. You need to keep up on your business news as far as the "clueless executives" from europe though. The CEO, and COO of Chrysler are Americans, and Dieter (past CEO of Chrysler) is now CEO of all DC. Dieter being the guy who made the call on making the 300C/Magnum/Charger, all the SRT stuff, and KEEPING the Viper in production AND developing it further AND bringing the coupe back. That success and the resulting great financial news in the last few years on the American side of the company is why he was promoted to run all DC. So I don't think you have to worry about the Vipers future.

It appears that the driver and passenger side windows in the gen III are smaller and sleeker in appearance than the gen2s. I like that, if that truly is the case. I find that the gen 2's sides slope in. But, if you look at the gen 3 from the side/rear (shot 4) the sides look better on the gen3 because of its angular approach. Both look great and I think people would be disappointed if the genIII debuted first and the gts was the "follow up." Its just that the first and second gens were so shocking and different that nothing could compare. Well this new coupe compares (quite well) and people just arent as "wowed" by it. But I think that is really only the viper loyalists because the average joe thinks any year viper is AMAZING..jmho

I don't buy the Frankenstein BS. I think the rear of the new Coupe blends perfectly with the front clip of the SRT-10. The rear of the convertible is the most "rounded" part of the car.

Are you kidding? An angular car with a bubble top blends perfectly? You are cracking me up.

SRT10:Tom and I have ironed things out you wont hear another negative word out of me in regards to the SRT-10. Now in regards to you,you like to constantly use your faggy little icon when you address me so why don't you post a full body shot of yourself only wearing shorts so you can't hide all your fat and then we will see who is more of the man k? Are you ready to be really embarrassed??? LMFAO I'm sure I wont hear from your big mouth again...

This is good news. Hopefully Dieter will even out any inequities between Mercedes and Chrysler. I am getting tired of seeing 600+ hp engines in heavy luxury poser cars from Mercedes and not in the lighter weight thinly disguised race car that is the Viper. The Viper is dominant in racing and needs future factory innovation and higher hp to stay competitive.
And hopefully Dieter will do his best to seperate what appeals to Americans with what appeals to Europeans. The Viper was originally designed specifically for the American car ennthusiest. Designing the car to appeal more globally probably will lose core Viper buyers. Let's face it. Europe and America have different taste in cars and trying to appeal to both will fail.

I made no comment about ANYTHING regarding a global market, there is no news that I know of as far as the Viper being designed to appeal to a global market. The Viper will be sold in Europe with some changes for that market, lights exhaust etc. But that will not affect the car as sold here as I understand it. I don't know exactly what heavy poser cars you are talking about when you are referring to 600hp Mercedes cars. The SL series? But there is a limit in terms of legal liability to the horsepower/weight configuration. Put 600hp in a car that weighs 4500lb is a lot less risky than putting 600hp in a 3400lb car. The number of people who get themselves in trouble with the 450-500hp available in the Viper right now are well known. Having said all that, I will be the first to buy that 600hp Viper!

It looks VERY LARGE compared to a GTS.....I think it looks great!!

Gerald

My exact thoughts.

_______LENGTH______WIDTH_____HEIGHT
GTS____176.7________75.7_______48.0

COUPE__175.6________75.2_______48.6

GTS is longer, wider and lower. COUPE is shorter, narrower and taller.

Lee00blacksilverGTS, I get your point on the risk factor but the Mclaren SLR also has 600hp+ and it was lightened up with carbon fiber if I recall. I just hope Dieter sticks to what has make the Viper successful in the future generations. (large displacement V10, weight reduction that includes luxury sacrifices, and over the top styling that still is somewhat loyal to the concept Viper from 1989)
I would love to see the return of the clamshell hood and removable roof combined with a Competition Coupe rear window and rear end with wing with a 650 hp V10 in the Gen IV.
