Has anyone considered mounting little temperature sensing devices at each corner to monitor the tires and road surface temperature?

Reading about all these accident, I was thinking that the added information might help a little?

Funny,in the "old days" we just stuck our hand out the window to tell the temperature. If it was cold and/or wet, it was a no brainer!

Actually, systems such as you have suggested have been tried numerous times over the years. In the '60's Rover Cars LTD introduced a "Ice sensor" system. Similar systems were to follow, but none were a substitute for good old common sense. Would you trust your life to a "Idiot light"? Accurate on board tire temp devices are available though, I believe.

Good Data Aquisition systems have these sensors to monitor tire temps, or brake temps. The big problem is the masses just have no experience with driving a car with 500 lbs or torque and too easily get in trouble.
