I won't be painting any. This hood will go out after it is molded and I hope the customer sends me pics of his car (green, gen1). After that, I really have no plans to paint one at this time.

People ask me all of the time to design stuff for the original Vipers. With the exception of the top, I find it VERY hard to improve upon the original design. I was doing everything in my power to build the Street Serpent car because I felt so strong about improving the SRT design. For me, the original RT cars look near perfect so I'll probably keep my original hood on it.

...but you never know.

I love everything you've done so far except this. Just my opinion. I like the hood speakers on the Gen I/II cars and I think the more squared off lines of the Gen IV do not work with the curves of the early cars.

I was never really fond of the speakers, but I don't disagree with you. I still stand by my statement that original Vipers are hard to improve upon and this is no exception.

On the gen 2 it is. the gen 1 would need a custom air box to benefit from it.

Gen 2 airbox will fit on a Gen 1 btw..(when fitting a G2 hood on a G1 for example)

I did it about 10yrs ago :)

the only thing i think that shows the vipers age is the hood vents. i think they should have been molded in instead of looking like you can you pull them off. that is why i like this new gen 3 hood for the gen 2, makes the car look younger and newer

I think the hood looks good, and would of course also like to see it painted. How do you think that same hood would look with more of a naca duct instead of the scoop? I really like the vents over the wheel wells. IMO from a distance the stock gen 3 hood makes it hard to distinguish the car from a Z06, a SS camaro, or Viper as they all have such similar scoops in the front and the NACA duct really sets it the viper apart from the others.

The scoop is where I have the problem and it will look better with only the vents. However, this hood is made to the customers requirements and I've been piad to build it his way. The reason for this topic is to see if should should mold this one.

I still have not decided.

With a custom air box, would the scoop give better air supply to the filters than the standard Gen 1 set-up? Also, are the vents designed to '****' air out of the engine bay? i.e. is the front lip on the vents sufficient to cause flow separation on the backside and a -ve pressure differential from the engine bay?

OK, keep in mind there are no latches on this hood so it is only setting into position (hence the poor gaps at the moment).

OK, here is the final product. The customer likes the idea of this hood being a one of a kind and it will NOT be added to the AP Engineering product line.

Overall, I really like it. I think it adds quite a bit to an otherwise quiet gen 1 hood. My only complaint is the fit around the headlamp, which, if you look at the pics on the yellow car, were fine. Not sure if the body shop that put this together and painted it were stuck on that or what. To be fair, this was a gen 2 hood.

It was a fun little project.

I think it looks really nice (and fits about as good as my stock Gen I hood, which I've never been overly enthused with).

Nice work Jeff - also looks like the paint came out good too.... whoever did that.

Looks great. I think I would like one without the scoop, just the vents. It may even work with my sabre type stripes.

Wow, that looks great! Nice way to update a Gen II without changing its overall look or appeal. The side vents look really good...aggressive versus the stock vents. Any thought of making a bolt on replacement vent for the stock Gen II hood? I think that would be a pretty good seller, as the change could be made easily without having to replace the entire hood.

Just a thought.

Grasshopper you obviously missed the most important part of the hood. Now go back and re-read the entire thread.
