Caught that yesterday when sitting in front of NAPA. I just smiled, figured the boy can find out later his Dad may be a doofus without me pointing it out and embarrassing him.

I had a similar experience....

I was in a convenience store, and an older guy came in raving about "wow, that's nice,....oh man, did you see that?...................Stingray!"

I almost started laughing,.......then just left.
At least he thought the car was 'nice'.

I'm happy he noticed it didn't look like a Taurus.

I was sitting in my favorite sushi bar with my GTS sitting right outside the front window and a guy comes in and asks me if I like the new Vettes. I said I really am not into Vettes, and he raises his eyebrows and says-wait for it----But you're driving one!

I had two little kids call my car a cobra at the post office. Probably 5-6 years old. The fact they were excited to see it was good enough for me. I did tell them it was a Viper however. They couldnt stop staring.

I carry Hotwheels Vipers in the trunk for those kids. :) That will make a kid's day and yours.

One time I pulled in to a Dodge dealership and a salesman came out and said, "Nice Viper. Does that have the Corvette engine in it?" And he was dead serious!

I was recently at a car show with my Gen IV ACR and two guys walked by in their early 40's and one of them had their son with him who was about 12 or 13. The three walked by and the kid says, "whoa, dad look at that viper!", the two men stop and turn to look, he ponders it for about 2-3 seconds, and says to his son, "that's not a viper, thats a corvette" very matter of fact. The son then looks at me standing in front of the car and has this incredulous look on his face. I just nodded to him that he was right, and he smiled. There is NO excuse for a 40 year old man to not be able to recognize a viper, especially an ACR. Man card lost there and the kid should probably start looking for a new dad because this one is likely not able to fish, shoot a gun, change the oil on any vehicle, ride a bike, or throw a football.

Earlier this summer I saw a little guy telling his dad all about Vipers too. He was pretty young and his facts were almost dead on. I talked to them for awhile, and they were awesome. It's nice to see younger kids knowing their cars...it's a nice break from all the V12/automatic transmission/(do you street race) garbage.

I got the "Its looks like a Corvette" comment from my girlfriend's grandmother. I told her "I have seen about a dozen Vette's today and this doesnt look anything like them."

Had my car at a major car show recently and couldn't believe the amount of absurdly wrong comments people would make about my car. Most people who didn't know what it was would look at the hood and see the snake and boldly tell everyone they were with that this was a Cobra! A few Corvette comments, and one ***** thought it was some kind of Mustang. I even had a few people disagree with me when I told them that it was a Viper even when they knew I was the owner.....morons.

Then one guy walks by with his little kid who must have been maybe 5-6 years old and he knew it was a Viper. Guy asks me if his kid could sit in the car and I thought, what the heck. Kid gets in and the kid start going crazy jumping up and down on the seats, opening and slamming everything closed, pulling on the emergency brake and on the visors, kicking the dashboard and other areas accessible to his feet, and pulling on the knobs so much I'm shocked they didn't come off. The dad wasn't stopping his kid from disrespecting me and the car, so I finally opened the door and asked him if his kid could please get out. Thankfully mo damage done, but it turns out he had been asking almost all the other owners if his kid could sit in their cars too, and he had a few real problems with some owners as his kid did some minor damage to some real classics at the show like an old Ferrari 250 GTO that is worth millions, and a Ferrari 275. Some people are completely clueless.

Wow, I often let people sit in my car at shows. Maybe I should re-think that.

Kids often know more about the car than the adults because it's in their video games. I've even had some kids call it "the Video Game Car."

I always have people ask me what year my Vette is :)

Sometimes I'm standing right at the rear viper decal and I just point to it.

I had someone ask if my car was the new Tesla.

Seriously.

Sooooo, did you keep a straight face or bust out?

Last yr at a gas station I had a vette pull in next to me and he asked if I liked my ZR1, and I had the top down even. I just said, I love the ZR1, might get one someday. LoL

Yiiiiiikes, a kind gesture almost backfired dramatically. Certainly discourages owners giving kids a chance to sit in their dream cars!

My blue/white '06 coupe has never been mistaken for anything else. The stripes and blue/white color are likely the reason, as people identify with the '96 GTS in those colors, when they think Viper. My solid white '13 has been mistaken for: Corvette, Maserati, Ferrari, Tesla.

Maybe I should paint stripes on it.

The comment I have heard a few times. "My (friend/uncle/relative/boss/neighbor) has one and he let me drive it, it's really a blast, his is just like yours only an automatic."
Real credibility in that statement.

If the parent ask, I always say, "If your son/daughter knows how to respect a car of this caliper, yes they may."
or "If you have taught
son/daughter how to respect a car of this caliper, yes they may." If you say that the parent usually tells the kid you get in just just sit still and don't touch anything, show the respect I taught you.

Most of the times it's the little boys that are just drooling but not touching, I ask them if they want to set in it and they do with great respect.
In the Vintage Race Car Club I belong to we encourage the youngsters to set in our racecars and the phone cameras are a clicking.

One time I was at Mid-Ohio Vintage Motorcycle Days with a Boss Hoss (SBC powered motorcycle) there was 8-10 year old boy just looking at the bike for 10 minutes.
I ask him if he wanted to set on it, he did and I shot his picture with his camera
(film days) never thought much of it. About 3 months later I got call from his mom (she had gotten my number from one of the pictures a little boy took as the bike was for sale and had a sign). The call almost made me cry, it was all about how the boy's father had left them and she couldn't do the father/son things he needed, and he carried that picture of him on the motorcycle with him at all time as showed anybody who would look. She said they had to reprint it and the first one wore out.
Almost made me feel bad enough and want to drive to Ohio and take the kid bowling or something.

I tell that story to show a small
gesture can make a difference greater than you imagine and may be worth the risk of an occasional scuff on your dash. JMO

i don't understand how so many people confuse it with a vette, they look nothing alike. the obvious lack of two circle taillights (if they can see the rear) should give it away. it's like confusing a german sheperd with a pitbull. and if not sure, why not just ask instead of just assume corvette? i've only owned mine for 6 months and no one has mistaken it for a vette, but i might just be lucky so far.

I used to have a 1955 Thunderbird everybody thought was Corvette. Face it the Corvette is the only 2 seat car people know.

On the bright side you could drive a Nash Metropolitan and they would think it was a Coevette.

No one ever made the mistake of calling my 02 FE a Vette, but with the gen 4, it happens all the time... It's really not their fault, The C6 stole a lot of it's looks from the gen 3 viper!
