I got my red 97 RT/10 about 9-10 weeks ago and I’ve been really enjoying it.
I’ve driven nearly 2,000 miles already.

Plenty more I could share but this post is about fuel octane:
When I got the car I was actually a little disappointed about its torque/acceleration. I had a feeling so I ran the gas tank as empty as possible without getting stranded, then I filled up with fresh top tier 93 octane. My feeling was right- the car was immediately better torque and acceleration. (I think the previous owner put cheap gas in it).

Since then I’ve been running top tier 93 and just today I filled up my Chevy truck for the first time in a while and
It felt so odd to choose the 87 octane.

I had a similar experience with my 06 I got that had 23k miles. The original gas mightve been old, but after a couple tanks the car got a lot better. Also an fresh oil change made the engine a lot smoother too. I got it Septemer 30th last year...I'm sitting at 27.5k miles now and counting. Hard not to drive it.

Most people let these car hibernate through the rainy months. Here in Oregon we have ethanol fuel, not sure if all states run this garbage, but if you can find a station that serves NON-ETHENAOL fuel, that way if they sit the fuel takes far longer to deteriorate.

I’ve had my gen 2 GTS for 13 years now, if I put ethanol gas in it (which I did when the gas station failed to disclose its gas had ethanol) regardless of which octane, it will not run properly. I go out of my way to put high octane (91 here in Oklahoma), 100% gas in it and it runs beautifully. 93 octane gas is near impossible to find in this state.

I wish you could find this everywhere. Down here in Florida it isn't too hard to get it. And, yes, it makes a difference.

Best I can find here in NY is a 90 octane with non ethanol and the car runs fine.

Oh yeah when I first test drove my rt10 it felt slow too. Mine was original plugs and wires and the gaps were way off on some. Swapped those out what a difference that made.

Man I’m going to watch for this. I’m in Florida too.
