Daytona spied at Sacto (Ben\'s?) on Friday night.

Okay, so my friend from church with the 2002 Z28 was at sacto on saturday night--

He saw what he described as a daytona "trailered in, oh it was tricked out" run 12.3@115.

He was probably telling me this to send a message because his son with Z06 ran a 12.5@115 best so far.

His luck with the Z was not as good on friday night, and he begged for some advice.

He went to Nitto tires, has a stock auto tranny and diff, and he is now forced to launch near idle.

Anything else spins the tires for 60 feet.

He's running 24psi.

No burnouts to start.

His question is, HOW can he HOOK? Since all of us face the same problem, does anyone have any specific advice to offer for his particular situation?

My suggestion was simply this--switch to a TALLER rear end.

He's a really great guy, though he gibes me about the viper blah blah, so I'd love to see him do better.

Anyone out there have some great advice?

That was our Daytona, all right. We left the roadrace wing on, so my MPH was down about 2.5 from my last visit 2 weeks ago, but ETs were probably only 0.1s slower. Doug Levin had graciously spent about an hour giving me pointers and things to try, and I was primarily concentrating on my launch.

My four runs that evening were:

Oh -- to answer your question about the launch, your friend needs (1) line locks and (2) a good burnout. It's as simple as that. Once those Nittos are warm, he should hook and start looking for -shorter- gears

AHHHHHHHH!!!!

Vicarious victory--so very sweet!!!

I KNEW there had to be an explanation, and you didn't let me down, Ben!

Your time slips have been sent, and your advice, too! I asked him if he did a burnout, and recommended a smoky one, but I had no idea it was so important. I let him know--thanks on that one. I'd like to see him crack 12 seconds, and perhaps with this advice he can.

But moreover, WOW!! You are singlehandely proving the viper to be the continuing king of the quarter mile among stock cars.

You mentioned new tires--new ET Streets?

It's so funny Tom mentions your slowest time, but leaves out all the 12.0x times--

I explained that you got that 12.3 off the gas in 3rd.

That will definitely get them off my back.

HEH. Remind him that the Daytona's got a completely stock engine and has run a best of 117.5 mph at Sacto, WITH the extra 60 lbs of rollbar installed. If he bugs you any further, show him this timeslip from two weeks ago when I had the roadrace wing OFF. Even though I was .08 slower on the 60' that night (they were pre-Doug-advice runs), I was still into the 11s

Ha--I had already sent THAT one along before you just posted it. Believe me, that 11 second slip is in my file.
