Re: DC Please build a street version or anyone please build a kit for me!!!

Jeff,

Can you post more pictures of your kit if possible? Many thanks.

Phil

I suppose I can show some close ups of a few design features. The project is at it's very "ugly" stage and it may be hard to see the diamond in the rough.

I'll get something on here in a few hours.

Re: DC Please build a street version or anyone please build a kit for me!!!

Keep in mind, the greatest feature on the show car is the one that cannot be duplicated in a body "kit". This would be the upper canopy (everything from the beltline up). This is extremely low and exotic and would require chopping of the windshield frame, custom made glass fore, aft, and side. VERY EXPENSIVE custom work that is way beyond any kit. It IS what makes the car totally stunning. It's perfection and it is a shame someone decided to compromise for tall people (unlike the original RT-10).

With that exception, I feel the new body panels we will be offering looks better than the showcar. Personal preferences incorperated, of course.

original had plenty of compromises like the exposed exhaust pipes(from concept), low low windshield and others, concepts are only that they dont have a lot of practicality in the real world.

But it kept very, very close to the concept. Features that didn't make it to production most likely had more to do with availability and assembly than practicality. No windows, no door handles, no A/C...I can't envision anyone at Dodge vetoing something on a 92 Viper because it wasn't practical for the real world.

there was not a single body panel from the concept that was common with the production rt's!

True. The original production version still retained the polarizing effect the show car did. As for the new one, I saw PHOTO'S of the 2000 showcar and was completely drooling. When I saw the production version I was disappointed by how much FLAVOR it had lost.

Don't misunderstand me, the SRT-10 has some extremely great styling cues and overall (for me) it's a tough call to determine if it's a better design than the originals (high compliment). What made me obsessed to do this project it that we've seen how much better it CAN be. Restore that FLAVOR!

Sure,
has nothing to do with the flawless lines of the CC but an idea for a widebody SRT10.

Put my flamesuit on :D

That looks cool, but it is different than the nose of the concept....

Don´t want to critize it though, I´m thrilled someone has the guts to start something like this!

Some more pictures from my model (sidesills look to be curved all the way up to where the bodypart goes wider (to the nose) (Sorry for the poor quality)

Viewing this model, I can see your inspiration for the SRT hardtop!

This may be premature, but any estimation on the cost? Also, what body parts will be replaced? TIA.

If it is close to a comp coupe, I would guess fascia, hood, front fenders, rear fenders, rear hatch/trunk, rear bumper, roof, and add a splitter and spoiler. You would also have to add framing to extend the rear of the car. Because of the wider stance, may have to change the wheels to a different offset.

Close. The project is being performed on a convertible with our removable hardtop (panel kit will be available for a coupe as well). Every panel is changed except the hood and doors. Track dimension is changed using longer wheel studs and spacer like the comp coupe. Rear of the car is not "long" like the comp coupe so no need for custom framing. Rear end is based on the production coupe with wide comp coupe quarters.

Around 10k for panels only. Expect to have about 20k (guess) invested if the plan is to send it to us for the conversion, paint, etc. Keep in mind you would still have your factory panels that are easily worth about 10k or more that can be sold to get some of the investment back.

This is early guess on pricing. Could be higher. Could be lower. The real advantage to the SRT car is that it is so easy to remove/replace panels.

What about weight? Are the panels you will be building comparable to the stock ones?

That's the goal. I noticed the stock fenders are a bit wavey when looking at them from the drivers seat and the fiberglass should be straight(er). The panels might not be quite as light as stock, but real close. I'd love to do carbon fiber, but it is not as easy to get as it was 6 months ago.

I pulled my first fender panel yesterday and it seems to weigh a bit less than stock. I very excited about this car!

Jeff do you think you may have the car ready to debut for a spin around the dream cruise?

I was REALLY pushing for that. That's a best case scenario, everything goes perfect sort of goal.

Probably not going to happen. Too bad, it would have been a lot of fun.
