I was cleaning my driver side valve cover and had some oil splatter near the hole where the hose from the airbox plugs in. I disconnected the hose and cleaned around the hole with some dishwasher soap and a damp rag. It got the oil off fine, but when I looked down, I saw a small puddle of soapy water in the hole in the valve cover :curse: I got my siphon gun and sucked out everything I saw, but is there a chance something will be screwed up or any other precautions I can take to be sure everything is ok? I'm going out of town tomorrow and scheduled to dyno the car Saturday, so I don't want any chance of something going wrong. TIA

You'll be fine. No worries. Water is actually a natural bi-product of combustion, so you actually have trival amounts of h20 in your engine from that process, and then even condensation from a cold motor getting hot.

You're fine, but dont go filling your crank case with water now. lol.

Heat is going to evaporate it anyways, or just letting it sit for those few days will do it too.

I figured I was ok, but I wanted to hear it from you guys as well. Then I remembered that I'm going out of town tomorrow and dynoing Saturday so I defintly figured I better go on and ask just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the help, now you can go back to fighting with Inferno :)

the only time water should cause a major problem is if you sucked it up through your intake and it got into the combustion chamber. this could cause you to throw a rod, ive seen that happen before and its not pretty.

Man, I spray Simple Green all over and then hose it off. Been doing that on all of my cars for years. AND NO problems. When you do this don't use Castrol cleaner or the Purple stuff. Read the container for ALUMINUM safe. I almost wrecked and intake and a set of wheels. Takes a whole lot of Buff'n to get em back. Look at the directions on aluminum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you guys spray on for the second step as far as making the hoses and things look shiny? I have plenty of Simple Green to get all the gunk and dirt off. Meguires hyper dressing was recommended in a few threads but I've been to AutoZone, Walmart, Kmart and a few other places and they don't stock it.

I've seen a few things on the shelf that supposedly is a cleaner and a finishing detail spray. I can't believe that one product would do a good job for both and I hesitate to use the same detailing spray on the engine that I use on the exterior.

Edit: I just did a search and found some info that will certainly help me. First, unless there's a new formula for it, they say that Simple Green is corrosive to aluminum and if you use it to not leave it on for more than 10 minutes. Many people recommend diluting it first.

Second, a good method of drying it off and to get excess water out of the spark plug wells, etc., is to use a leaf blower. Of course, if you're going to hose things down be sure and cover the PCM and any other electrical components first.

If it were me, I would run the car for 15 minutes and then change the oil and filter. It's not a bad idea anyway to have fresh oil in the car when you are running full out. Oil change only takes 15 minutes and it's good insurance.

I'm gonna let the car run until it gets up to operating temperature before I leave tonight and then drive it kinda hard for the 1st few miles to be sure I burn up whatever water/soap I may not have got.

If I see bubbles coming out of the exhaust, I'm taking pics like John asked, and I want them put in the registry!! ;)

This is an easy to find product at Pep Boys. Good to spray on the engine and hoses....

I sprayed it on every sq. inch of this motor and fire wall and it came out great! Works great on all the new plastic motor covers like on a Benz too.

I would be careful not to spray it on any fan or drive belts however.

They say it's good for any surface and have a demo video on their website on using it.

I plan on using it soon.

This stuff is the bomb: Adam's Polishes In and Out Spray. Not only can you spray it on your motor and anything plastic it also cleans and gives the dash on my GTS a nice sheen. It wipes right off of paint and glass without a trace. Last week I sprayed it on the seam between my rear fender and the top that looked gray and now it is a nice black color. Super stuff. adamspolishes.com

Griot's garage makes an awsome engine cleaner and a 'finish' spray

If I run out of the 'good stuff' from Griot's, I use simple green, then finish with a light spray of pledge

Man, don't use Castrol Super Clean on any aluminum. I did and wrecked my Torque thrusts and a Cobra aluminum intake. Corrodes them bad!!! Simple Green works the BEST.

This stuff is amazing, I agree, however It does leave a "tire wet" like greasy film on paint, it does come off, but it took a few times spraying and wiping with the detail stuff, Do you think this will be good for an engine? It would look amazing no doubt, but is it safe?
