I think the consensus from the last thread on this was that the rears appear to be out in Europe, but not over here yet. I think the fronts are available.

Yeah, they're availble next day in the UK, there's a set in my garage (not mine) they are 285/30/R18 and 335/30/R18 Y-rated. That front size will make the car sit a little lower at the front than OE, but that's the only availble 18" sizes. Hope they soon make it across the waters to you.

I am headed back to Indiana this coming week for a few days. When I return I will find out all I can about them, and also see what I can do as far as shipping them home.
I have a couple ideas that might be possible. We'll see!

estimates of shipping costs are in there brosure, to USA and canada

10kg
international standard 5-8 days - £52
datapost 1-4 days - £39
ups expedited 4-6 days - £56
ups express 1-2 days - £38
dhl 1-2 days - £38

20kg
international standard 5-8 days - £76
datapost 1-4 days - £57
ups expedited 4-6 days - £70
ups express 1-2 days - £55
dhl 1-2 days - £56

The exchange rates dont do you any favours at the moment, a full set of 18"
is around £800 also add your USA import taxes. They are a massive company, the website doesnt show 1/3 of the stuff they sell, mail order is their speciality so no worries about buying from them. No doubt the tires themselves will seem expensive.

Somebody on here a couple of months back was looking at the Sparco seats off them, as he believed they were a lot cheaper than USA prices, but not sure if the guy went any further

So what Kumho calls the V700 here is the V70A in Europe? If there is no doubt that these are the ultra-sticky Kumhos we've heard about from the 17" guys I think they'd be well worth the investment. The only other option is the BFG, and it's apparently not nearly as stable through the turns, plus most people are running them mismatched with Pilots on the front (maybe you have to). I hope this pans out.

I may be able to ship US post which would be a real $$ saver. I'll find out soon.
Also, I'll find out what these tires go for here in Italy.
The exchange rate for the $/GBP really ***** right now. Euro isn't good either, but might be better.

That or I can carry a couple with me each time I fly home! :p

Need to find out shipping rates. :-(

This is a response I got from Kumho rep inquiring about 18" availability in North America..

"Unfortunately we do not have plans to import the size you are looking to the North American market. these tires are produced in low volume, so Europe gets all tires produced. Sorry we couldn't help.

Thanks,

If you want to try a set, we can provide 18" Goodyear radial slicks, full-race compound, for your track tires. This-season's tires, too, fresh off the truck.

These are SCRUBS from Rolex and Homestead. Rolex was so wet, the best dry-track tires remained unused. Many still show the mold-marks, having done only 3-6 laps. Many appear virtually new. About 75% off list ! (List $450 ea) So you get a set of 4 for the price of one new tire.

I also have 18" F-1 RAIN Tires, full-treaded and gummy-soft, virtually NEW, that would "PROBABLY" make a great drag tire. These are stickier than a ZERO RATED DOT tire.....

None of these tires are DOT legal....(and the rains would only last 1000 miles on street anyway.) But worth an experiment at way less than $150 each ??? They list for over $500 each on the rains !

Email me or call. Autocrossers would do well to try these. Be sure your road-race sanction allws 'em....

Jon, you don't by any chance have a pic of the F-1 rain do you? For street use, would you run them on the front as well, or mix them with Pilots?

Just an update. I have spoken to Kumho Italy, and they are trying to get some of the Ecsta 700 335/30/18 to me here in Italy. Of course, it took a minute to convince the guy they do make that tire in that size! But he now knows exactly what we are looking for and he will get back to me soon.
My understanding is that these tires are used in F3 Racing around Europe. They are expensive in the UK, so let's see how they compare here.

I'll post all the info soon.

But if you have them in stock how come they aren't listed in your tire selector charts? You probably could have sold a few more to Viper guys.

John,

I have gotten tires from you before and you may want to start a new thread stating you have these, or list it under Dealer Specials. As may or may not be aware there have been NUMEROUS guys looking for these.

Thanks for the info.

Well now that this option is on the table, I'll be the first to open the Kumho v. BFG debate--how would the two compare for straight line traction? (I know the Kumhos would be far better for taking corners). Are the Kumhos really that sticky, even for blower cars?

Ronnie....I will let you know. I just purchased a set of 18 Kumho 335/30-18 and 285/30 18 fronts, there was only 1 other set in the US and I fixed up a friend with them. Currently there NO other sets available in the US for purchase. The Kumho's will be used as my daily driver tires. I will be putting some serious power and torque down to these tires daily, my car is currently running over 144mph in the 1/4 @10.0 .

I was one the first to purchase the BFG's and then I used them for daily driver tires. They worked very well in a straight line. Any using BFG's as a daily driver and will use them in the rain with any kind of power is a FOOL. Rain and the BFG's WILL result in accident..... BE WARNED!!!!!

Ward, let us know how they work. What was your opinion on the BFG's high-speed stability on the street in a straight line? I know this has been beaten to death, but the responses seem to always be either "Don't use them or you'll die" or "No problem at all."

So JonB meant he could supply ONE customer with 18" Kumhos? :(
