Hey gang, my first post in the performance section, who knows, might even get some replies!!

I took my car to the dynoshop last week and pulled a 430.x standard which was then corrected down to 420.x SAE. (stock 97 GTS). Wanted to get some baseline numbers before I start to play, new exhaust in garage!

My question is, the car did pull the 430, in at least 90 degree hear with humidity to match, yet the SAE brings this number down? I don't follow the SAE procedure, I would think the power sapping heat (sidenote-with very small fan aimed at the front of the car) would bring the SAE numbers up to match a "norm" benchmark for comparing apples to apples?

Anyone shed some light on this, I guess the number is only bragging rights, I will be more interested in the increase after exhaust mods, but regardless still not sure on the theory yet, should I only re-dyno at this exact location or does SAE eliminate any variance from shop to shop?

Thanks for any input,

You are right and wrong. The standard value (std) is not the uncorrected number. In high heat and humidity the uncorrected number will be the lowest. SAE (Dynojet default) will be higher relative to how bad your conditions were. The STD number will be substantially higher than the SAE number. You can also lower the smoothing value (.2 default)and that should push up both hp and torque.

I took a recent pull where I did 442 SAE at .2 smoothing, I changed the correction to standard with no smoothing and the hp went to 455.

thanks for the help guys,

Good to know what SAE represents, at 77 and 0 humidity I am still at a loss as to why I pulled 430 STD at well over 90 degrees and humidity to match and that was brought down to 420 SAE......I'll tell people SAE, as that is the benchmark, what's 10 horse among friends??
