Disappointed with 1/4 mile time...

...but it was still fun as hell!!! I just got back from the track (my first time to ever take anything to a track). I have an '05 SRT with a Paxton, exhaust, Comp. cam, and a few other things on street tires. The best time I got out of 5 runs was a 12.03. Does this sound about right? I was expecting to get in the low 11's or high 10's based on everything I have read. I do know that I had a difficult time hooking up. I now know what everyone means by tire hop. It was a blast!!!

I saw a old acr with a paxton run 11 flat(on passtime, speed)but not bad for ur first time.

What were your 60' times and mph at the end of the 1/4 mile? I suspect it was really hot, a DLM intercooler and pump would help with heat soak if you don't already have them.

Are you boiling the tires out of the hole? I too ask, what tires are you running, and what is your 60ft time? What was the track prep like, and what rear end gears are you running? Also, what was the air like on the day of the run.......temp......humidity......what elevation......etc. All these factors come into play.....if the air is HEAVY and your heat soaking, the times will be "slow" in comparison to cool dense air.

My 60' times were all around 2.2 and my mph were 114, 118, 120, 124 mph.

Are you boiling the tires out of the hole? I too ask, what tires are you running, and what is your 60ft time? What was the track prep like, and what rear end gears are you running? I am running the Pilot Sports (not sure which series). I'm running the stock 3.07 rear end. The air was humid and hot as hell (Texas heat).

oh god you have runflats. How on earth can you get a supercharger, headers, exhaust delete cats, comp cam and not get rid of the run flats! You should be well into the 10s withe sc and cam get ps2s! You could always go with some sticker like hoosiers but you might need new half shafts.

I am running the Pilot Sports (not sure which series). I'm running the stock 3.07 rear end. The air was humid and hot as hell (Texas heat).

FWIW, Last time I went to the strip the temps were in the low 70's, but probably closer to 80 on the blacktop. Humidity was low though.

My '06 Coupe has a few mods (Green Filters; DC Tune; 170 T-Stat; Corsa Track; 3.55 Gears). I got 4 runs in all over 123mph, with my best of 124.65mph. All runs were between 12.001 and 12.05 w/ 60's in the 1.95 to 2.05 range. Very consistent, but my car has a much better ET in it with a stickier track and more aggressive driving.

Last year I went 11.85/119mph in cooler weather, different track, and spinning in 2nd and 3rd!:dunno:

Anyway, yeah, heat and humidity kills power. IMO, your car should trap in excess of 130mph in decent weather.

Your first point about having fun is the key. Drag racing is great fun!:drive:

The better numbers WILL come with cooler weather and more practice.

If you are getting 2.2 60' times and wheel hop, try a more mellow take off rather than revving the engine and dropping the clutch. Remember that you have LOTS of power (more when it's cooler) so practice your launches, because wheel hop can break your halfshafts (U-Joints) from the torque and impact.
Once you get your 60' times under 2.0 with smoother launches then you will be in the 11s. And then if you get cooler weather the times will improve even more.

Your MPH seems very low for a Paxton car. My Coupe stock went 123 in 100 degree air temps. You should be at least 128 but more like 130 - 132 mph.

Your 60' are killing you, but on run flats and your first time that isn't all that bad. Practice more on the launch like others have said. Ride the clutch out just a little from the start, then roll into it.

Drag racing is great fun, and practicing is the most fun part!

11.9 @ 129 here with stock Paxton/DC tune/RT cats/Corsa and 3.55's...with the dreaded run-craps, 2.0 60 ft time, shifting low at 5600rpm's. Car was completely warmed up, and temp was 98 degrees and very humid. 1st and 2nd gear were useless over half throttle. Got booted off the track for running too fast without a rollbar. Oh well.

Thinking with slicks, on 65 degree day, powershifting at redline, I should be in the 10's at around 135.

Are the runcraps Michelin Pilot Sports? I've heard a lot of negative comments about them but never what brand they are. If this is what I have, I definitely want to change them.

See if they say ZP on the side, ZP = runflats, the ps2's are very similiar with the wording on the side but say ps2 in one very very small spot, but DO NOT say ZP. ZP = ****

And just for a point of clarity here, the regular Michelin pilot sport tires are actually excellent tires, with a good combination of both dry and wet weather grip and decent wear characteristics. They have provided a great level of all around performance for stock Vipers for years. :D

Still, if you have spend thousands of dollars to add more power to your Viper, and you want to get more of that power to the ground, the newer Michelin PS2 tires do offer better grip, which is why the 600HP+ '08 Viper has PS2s as their new factory tires. :cool:

FWIW - For Every tenth of a second you can reduce your quarter mile time, you reduce your ET by two tenths.....so, if you could muster a 1.7 60ft time, you'd have ran a 11 flat....

Also, the MPH seems a bit low, do you know what kind of power the car is putting down? 124mph traps are indicative of ~500rwhp
