All -- I've got a bunch of videos from the VOI drags, but I'm on a dialup line right now out here in TN, so you'll forgive me if I don't upload most of them until I get back on Monday. As has been observed in a number of other threads, the VOI drags were a mixed bag. There were some bright lights -- Albert running a 9.99, RSI running 148 MPH and Albert and DLM both running 147 MPH -- but in general I think it's fair to say none of the top dogs were happy with the results. There was very little testing time, and as you know the races were cut short by rain. Still, there were some good showings, and I have a bunch on video and will be posting them as soon as I have some decent bandwidth.

For your collective amusement / edification, I've got a couple of Doug's runs in my DLM car. I never thought I'd say it, but: right now I've got too much HP! I don't want to elaborate on what I plan to do just yet (in case it doesn't work
supergrin.gif
) but I think the problem's solvable without giving up the ultimate HP Doug's put into the car.

OK, no more words. Here's a pass made (attempted) at about 1050 RWHP. Watch Doug launch. Watch Doug go sideways in 1st and 2nd. Watch Doug reach 3rd by about 50 mph
laugh.gif
Watch what happens when it finally hooks up...

DLM Level 4 - Medium power

No surprise, then, when we turned the power WAY down (~800 RWHP) the car was a bit quicker:

DLM Level 4 - Low Power

Holy wheelspin!!!
Be careful on the street with that one. You are liable to go sideways if you give it full throttle at 100mph with street tires....or is this a full-time drag car now since you have the Daytona too?

Did you run into Jose from the NorCal club with the other Daytona? We just finished up putting the LETHAL 650 on his Viper.

Ben- Was the nitrous modulated between the first and second run? What was done to reduce the power (I assume he didn't do a 'quick' pulley change or anything). Hae you tried it w/o nitrous yet?

Be safe and have fun!
Can't wait to see it when you get back from VOI.

Wow Ben! Looks awesome.
I wonder if Doug is working on a 4WD version of the Viper to put all that power down.

I hope you guys get some patches of dry waether coming up.
Thanks for the vids.

> Curious about the tires... they don't appear to be stock but they don't look like slicks either.

Those are CCW's excellent 26x11.5x16 ET streets & skinnies combo. Almost all the current fast guys use them, and they work great. Unfortunately, I think we've reached their limits. Fortunately, it appears CCW has an answer
supergrin.gif

> 28x14.5x16 hoosiers wil take care of that, pulled the front wheels on giardina's car clear off the ground

John, you were on my "short list" for traction solutions -- hell, you ARE my "short list"
supergrin.gif
Those would also solve the problem of "need to shift to 5th before the end of the 1/4". You've got mail!

Nice. The MPH at the end of the runs is more impressive to me than the ET. I don't drag race but from my veiw point it is more exciting to see the big MPH than a clock.\
No flames here just my view and my preference, I've always thought MPH beats a clock time. Then again I like the Bonneville high speed runs.

Do any of the big HP Viper cars ever turn any Bonneville runs? That is what I would like to see a big modded Viper run, lets see some of those MPH runs!!

how is that actually pulled off (w/o doing the spark plug in exhaust trick hehe) just a lot of power and free flowing exhaust?

What car was in the second lane, when the DLM was running 10:45 @ 143?

The other car ran a 11:01 @ 123. How much money was invested in that other car? What is .56 second worth?

I want to know what is the best bang for the buck, since I don't own a bank.

Too bad Vipers can't hook up all 1000+ of those r/w horsies down to the pavement. If they could, it would run low 9s, right?

Disclaimer- I am not a drag racer nor a tuner, and have no idea what I am talking about. Please accept my apologies in advance.

Yeah, Mash, thats pretty funny, isn't it?

I put that in there to leave myself an out, in case I inflammed the tuners and their customers who spent countless thousands.

If tuners and their wealthy customers get pissed for my mentioning the power-to-dollars ratio of various superchargers, I can always claim ignorance, rather than pursue the line of inquiry any further.

Claiming ignorance is always a safe bet, and not too much of a stretch for me.

Sorry, can't resist. Please show me a 900 HP viper package (or 800 at the rears) where power is available all the time for under 30,000 or in fact, just give me a price please.

Ben, you've got to call me after you get some seat time on the street. With that 150+ MPH potential, I NEED to know how you felt after driving it for the 1st time..

Regards,

Gerald

Point is you don't need 900hp to run low 10's only about 650hp, 700hp max and you can get that reliably full time for under 12k.Anymore than that and you can't get it down the track or you just constantly tune and break stuff.Cars that run 140 in the quarter they only make about 700 on the rear wheels, maybe a hair more and thats a fact.

Ben, your car will run 9's tomorrow if you do one simple cheap thing, throw 500lbs.of sand in your trunk.
Thats how some of the 10.5" outlaw record holders did it.
Game over.Your welcome.

Toofast, No flame but you should know better than that. 500lbs???
Maybe 50 or 100 but 500 is not only going to slow him down about 5/10's but if the clutch doesn't slip its would be a parts spittin mother...tranny..halfshafts...differential. Outlaw 10.5" racers only add enough weight to make the weight break requirements...certainly not 500 lbs. I've raced the fastest ones in the country and they would love to take weight out if the rules allowed it. You should know Nick Scavo....ask him he will get a good laugh.

Eassssy Tony,500lbs.

I do believe 100lbs+- would be worth many 10ths.is Ben's super snake, along with dropping the tire pressure to 10lbs.with rim screws.

Well, Gerald, I guess there isn't any. I didn't mean to imply there was...

If you got the bucks, you deserve to run low 10s, or 9s.

More power to ya...

Me, I'm not in that league. I could never justify or afford 30K to run 10s or 9s. About all I could do is sneak $6 or 7K out of the family budget, and be happy with 11s or whatever. You boys are out of my league. Peace.

Yah, my first comment to Doug after that 11.0 @ 147 run was "Man, those are Supra times!"
supergrin.gif

Seriously, looks like traction's just a few easy changes away, so I hope to have some more representative track #s in a month.
