Ok so I bought some 19" CCW 505A wheels with the 355 pirellis and they are still brand new sitting in the boxes. I was going to put them on before winter time came around but I ended up having some work done to the viper and now that its done it's winter time.

So...

Do I put them on now? Knowing that the car is going to sit NOT driven for a good 2-3 months of winter? Will that harm the tires in any way?

Or would it be a good idea to just let them sit in the boxes until I'm ready to use em?

BTW soon as I DO put them on, Ill have a set of 96-97 GTS wheels with mich tires (lots of tread left) for sale if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Jason

It's too cold out, I have never had the top on before, Don't feel like putting it on. Usually just sits in the garage in the winter.

lol, well yes and no.

yes im lazy.

and driving with the softtop and factory plastic windows is a PITA. I cannot see anything out of those windows i feel very uncomfortable. And yes i could buy a hardtop and some hard windows, but I would rather spend my money on more fun stuff :p

Put them on, go out and take some pictures of the car with them on. Go get the pictures blown up to poster size and hang them somewhere in the house where you can look at them while unable to drive the Viper. (Not in the living room unless you are single or want to be) Then you can sell the old wheels and tires and buy something else to put on the car.

I'm not far away, drove mine last weekend and will drive it this weekend if it's dry and no salt on the roads. We've been fortunate this year in the DC area.

Take care

Well the snow is coming now, i dont like driving with the salt yes, but i also dont like driving in the cold weather, my tires dont want to stay on the road at all, and on top of that I hate the softtop and factory windows. So pretty much i avoid all winter driving with the viper.

Putting the wheels on now with the potential salt isnt really and issue because I dont plan on driving it.

The issue is will it flat spot the tires? will it do anything at all to the tires just sitting there for 2-3 months not moving? This will be the first time they are mounted and they will just sit. Maybe its better if they sit in the boxes until ready to roll around?

I understand you've had some experience with blown heater cores Jason. We need to chat. :)

haha yeah dave just told me. Actually it was the thermostat housing gaskets. I was noticing a burnt coolant smell and could see a small amount of collant right on the top of the engine. Was a cheap fix. Is that whats happening for you?

Nope, unfortunately not. At this point, I can't really tell where this leak is coming from, but I think it's the heater core. Taking that AC/Heater-box apart is a major task, and one I'm not looking forward too. Too cold to do the work right now though, so she's just sittin' in the garage.

Whom/where are the reliable tech you refer to? Just in case :)

Hey Ken,
How's the family?

I've heard nothing but the very best about Bryon Muller in Great Falls. Lee, John and Ron have all said he is super careful/anal about the work he does. I have his card at home, but I looked up his numbers for ya, in case you need him.

I promised myself that I would do as much of the work on this car as I'm capable of, just because it's an easy(er) car to work on than most, and I really enjoy it. If I feel like I'm getting in over my head though, the car is definitely going to Bryon.

Jason, sorry for the thread jack...I say you leave the wheels off until winter is over and the streets are clean. This nasty stuff they put on the roads has to be hell on the finish on nice wheels like those.

Why not just send the wheels and tires to me and stop worrying? :)

Seriously, have you mounted the tires yet? If you haven't, then I would recommend getting your wheels chromed at Calichrome first. It's cheaper to ship without the tires. Once you get them back, mount your tires at a high end custom wheel shop, put them on your car and don't worry about them. You could aways drive the car around the block every few weeks if you are really that concerned.

chrome is too bling for me. Ive had chrome wheels and its just too flashy.

However, talk about easy to clean! u just rinse off chrome wheels and they are perfect again. Polished wheels **** major ass. Talk bout some serious effort to keep them lookin good. But yes the tires are mounted on there. If chrome wasnt so flashy id much rather have that then polished material.

Jason,

I store my car from November til April every year. Actually take the collision OFF my insurance, I can't drive the car until I make that wonderful call each Spring.

RE: flat spots: With modern tires, it's not as much of a problem as it used to be. General rule is, over inflate them, 8-10 psi over what you normally would run (29 psi) and all should be good. If it were me, I'd put the wheels on sometime between now and April. Gives you something to do with the car without actually driving it.

My .02, Good Luck.
