I'm in a similar boat (I'm 25 now), and I'm almost surprised I haven't gotten more attention and questions. I would have thought that living in a college town I'd have people all over it, but for the most part I'm not sure that a lot of the younger generation out there even knows what the car is (or they're just hippie tree-huggers around here, lol). I was orginally looking at a new Challenger, but I ended up getting my Viper for practically the same price as the other cars I was looking at. Some will say it's less practical, but 90% of the time the only thing I'm hauling is myself to work. I'd rather have a car I have fun in 90% of the time than drive around something boring all the time for those few times a year I need storage space or 4 wheel drive. Luckily I can usually beg/borrow/steal a truck when needed (3 in the family), but worst case I'd just buy a ****** for next to nothing if I really needed something.

^ this, I always try and be polite, I'll say "more than I care to admit" or " more than I paid for my first house 20 years ago" leaves them wondering what a house cost 20 years ago.... Had a guy in a Mercedes at the gas station come up to the car and walk around it looking at it, he then looks at me and say "it must be nice it be able to afford the NEW Viper!" Referring to the Gen V! I politely told him mine was a 2002, he couldn't believe it was an 11 year old car.....

Oh, they know. IMHO, most of the time when non-car nut folk see a kid of 25 or less driving an exotic car
they automatically think that it was supplied by- a. parents, b. an inheritance, c. lottery.
MoparMap, you obviously do not fall in that category. When I was a young'un driving a Corvette I was actually accused of getting the car via my parents. That was way so not true. I worked the 6pm to 6am shift at a service station (heavy on the Service).

Actually, The most often asked question...... and the most annoying for me..... is "What kind of gas milage does it get?"

Then: "How fast have you had it?" (even had a cop ask me that once) and the "How much did it cost" question.

I'm in a similar situation (32 years old, no kids, and I get the milk for free) and have invested heavily in my business and rent houses, but now I want to enjoy some of my labor. I get aggravated at my neighbors for the way they look at me, because I choose to live in an apartment. I just don't want to screw with maintaining a house. They always say "must be nice" or just look at me with those judgmental eyes.

Tons of people have judgmental eyes when you drive these cars. I'm 34 (but look younger), married for 3.5 years with a 14 month old baby boy. People assume far too much instead of what the truth really is, which is that im a very hard working guy who kept his nose down and made wise choices with my money and can now afford to live some of my dreams as a result.

Family and friends couldn't believe I bought the car now and #1 annoying question they all ask is "Where do you put the baby seat?!" I tell them that's what my wife's SUV is for!!!

The couple we bought my mom's 94 off of actually drove with a child seat in it every once in a while. Shoot, my gen 3 has the anchor behind the panel behind the seat, so if I have kids some day you can bet I'll get them started on enjoying Vipers from an early age .

I always feel a little bad when I talk about my cars because I don't want to come off as rich and stuck up. Yes, I have 3 cars and a motorcycle at my age, but for the most part they look a lot more valuable then they really are. My 71 Vette was my first car (parents bought it when I was 14 and planned to give it to me down the road, but I sort of claimed it early, lol), but there's nothing that special about it. It's a base model automatic, but it looks really cool and it will always have a special place because it was my first. I've debated selling it several times, but every time I look at it I just can't. My parents officially gave it to me as a college graduation gift (so insurance wouldn't be so bad in the meantime). I pitched in on my first motorcycle (440 Kawasaki) and kept trading up to my current one, but it's not really worth a whole lot, I just take good care of it so it still looks new. I bought my 67 Dart for $3500 or something with scholarship money and money from student teaching (don't tell, lol). I've since swapped in a 5.7 Hemi, but I did it all on the cheap a few pieces at a time, so it's not like I dropped it off at a shop with a blank check. I did the whole thing in my driveway with hand tools for the most part. Once I started my job out of college I had money to play with and could get a newer car for once, lol.

I just have priorities. I love cars and I'd rather spend money on them than other entertainment. I don't go out and party (never did), my family has rarely ever gone anywhere for a vacation, and we live in a regular house. If my mom had her way she'd have a 6 car garage with living space on top instead of a fancy house . Once I get into tracking the car I'm probably going to have problems though, lol. I have a feeling there will be a noticeable drain on the bank account then...

Like everyone else I get this question all the time. Response depends on how they ask. Also met a number of guys who have a brother in-law, friend or somebody that has a "faster" car then the Viper. Must be the cruise nights I go to.

One time at home I was cleaning the car on the front drive way, a couple of guys in their late 40s stopped and asked me if the car was mine, they then walked off muttering / grumbling under their breath they must be in the wrong job! Have to say it made me feel uncomfortable and I no longer park the car on the front drive. In the UK, people seem bitter if you have something they don't

Turned 34 today, married for 7 years, have a 15 week old boy. Have a professional degree, so graduate school, VERY POOR throughout. First to graduate undergrad college in entire family. Never took anyone's money or help, just worked harder to do the things I wanted, even wife and I paid for wedding on own from savings.

I get annoyed when people judge you on what you have, and think it is easy. They forget the road taken, for us at least was long and thrifty. I am extremely cautious of allowing people, especially in my family, to take advantage of that. "no, I will not pay for everyone's dinner because of where I live and I (theortically) can afford it"....so yeah, kind of bullcrap. When my brother comes to my house with girlfriends, he wants to show them our whole house...bedrooms and all...I have to stomp his d*ck and say ONLY main floor...no second or garage...I don't like being like that but complete strangers do not need a tour of my bedroom.

Looking for a VVO convert, hopefully aero package. Have a 69 corvette and 70 Chevelle SS already...would look cool together! and of course people always ask me "how much" or my FAVORITE!..."I would say nice car, but you already know that..." seriously...haters! I am gonna use the arm-candy line-love it!!!

I usually tell people. I don't really think it is that big of a deal. I paid just under $50k for mine, with 11k miles. Many people pay that for new cars all the time. Mine was basically new. I agree with the above poster where the last thing I want people to think is Viper owners are stuck up jerks. I am very happy to talk about just about any performance car.

As for reading people's looks, could you possibly just be too sensitive? I am fairly young (38) and have had my car since I was 36, and have 3 kids under 3. I don't really think people are "judging me" or "hating" when they look at my car. Of course, I don't really care if they do, either. I have worked hard, just like all of you to own a great car. Half of those people own a brand new F250 that they paid $50k for anyway. Spending that on a 2 seat car is just considered socially impractical for most people. They just don't know any better because they have never experienced the thrill of having a truly fun car to drive.

I used to get a chuckle out of that when I had my 2000 Jag XKR. Sticker price for it back in the day was $85k and I got it used for around $11k. Car was in really nice shape too, just had a ton of miles (124k) because the previous owner was in realty and drove it around everwhere. Wish I would have gotten a deal that good for my Viper, lol.
