Hi all,

I have my '06 coupe up on my lift cleaining out the remnants of a couple raccoons I hit a few days ago. Pieces and parts everywhere, but I wont go into the gory (pun intended) details.

I pulled the belly pan off to clean and noticed that my transmission is covered in oil from the midway on the sides down. No oil at the front nor is there any oil in the rear by the solenoids or tailshaft. It seems to be coming from the plate at the front of the trans that holds the bearings in place.

In speaking with my dealer, (I have warranty left on my car) it appears as though the transmission might get replaced. He told me that Dodge has remans available.

The part number is: RL103065AE. Can someone clue me in as to what this actually is? I know some time back gen 3 transmissions were as scarce as hens teeth, but there were new gen 2 transmissions available.

The idea of putting something in that I dont have a history on is a biit unsettling, but then again I can be over reacting.

thanks

Steve A.

This may be an opportunity to get one of the 2010 transmissions with the new gearing that the VPA has up for sale especially if the dealer is going to put in a remanufactured replacement.

When Dodge gets warranty issue transmissions back, you would not expect them to just throw them away. The factory can easily go through the transmission, and replace any worn parts, and upgrade to the latest specs.

For years Arrow was rebuilding warranty engines. Most everyone that got them back dyno'd much stronger numbers, ran strong and smooth, and tended to be more reliable than the originals. Would not be worried about a Dodge supplied reman. Often that is the only thing available, as they do not make anymore of the older models.

The newer transmissions come with much stronger gears that also shift smoother and run quiet. Getting the latest gear sets would be icing on the cake.

Viper transmissions are not remanufactured. The "RL" part number in this case simply means that the core (take out trans) must be returned where it is inspected and scrapped. All replacement Viper transmissions ordered through a Chrysler dealer are new transmissions.

Shouldn't be an issue as long as it is a Dodge remanufactured part and is covered by warranty. You should ask them to list all of the internals that were replaced along with their inspection criteria. I seriously doubt they will "offer up" a 2010 trans without you assuming the majority of the cost difference. The conversion kit cost (the 2010 is not a direct replacement for a 2003-2006) alone is $1k plus.
