Hey there,

I have a friend with a 97 gts. He swears to me he has had two door hinge problems on his driver side, which caused the hinge to go through the lower skin of the door. actually cracked the lower door panel. Has this occured to anyone in the room? PS-Never bring car to Dodge dealer for anything on Viper. They are changing my sills on car, the sills seemed to bubble slightly on my drivers side. When I bought it in , they orderd the part which came in pretty quick. The only problem was that they insisted that the car be done in a body shop which is telling me something that they dont know the car yet. I guess when you sell one a year from a dealer ship, you dont get much experience on the car, but I do think Dodge should have at least 1 pro on sight..

Will the real snake please stand up!!!!!!

I have replaced two drivers door hinges with the door check mechanism on my 97GTS in 30K miles. One hinge bound up and snapped. The other replacement hinge would not "check" the door when open. Neither damaged the body when it broke. Seems to be a chronic problem with my car. There doesn't seem to be any adjustment for the cam in the mechanism. As far as service goes, I don't believe all dealers have a trained Viper technician. Although the hinge is not that difficult to change out, many shops don't want to tie up there service bays with body related work. They transfer the body related work to a "specialist". For your mechanical work I would recommend you choose a dealer who has a Viper certified tech if possible. (JD)
