Can you guys with poppers for Gen. 1 tell me if they are worth getting? How far does the door actually come open, or is it simply a means to unlatch from key chain? Also, where to get a kit...

Thanks,

Dave.

Shadow,
The doors will pop open such that you can grab and open; no reaching inside necessary.
As 99 R/T 10 said, the information I provided to the "How To" section is correct. I am sending you an email with some pictures and installation tips in the form of Word documents.
DO IT; the price is right, it will take some time to dismantle the door, and install. You will not regret it. I'm sure others who have installed them will weigh in.
Expect an email.
Feel free to contact me via email or phone.

Well, Tator would be doing my work if I did poppers, he called today and said he's only done one set, and its a royal pain, over 4 hours per door I think he said. I trust his imput, after he explained a variety of issues. Why does everyone else claim this is a simple install?

Thanks,
Dave.

I did mine when I had to replace the rubber bellows in the door hinge protecting the wires. I also removed the roll-up seat belts from inside the door to install the over-the-shoulder belts. Even though I did all that at once, I'm sure the door popper part didn't take 4 hours.

It's basically one wire from the door latch area to the alarm box. The door popper should come with a simple bracket to attach it almost anywhere in the door. The popper has a cable to attach to the lock mechanism. You slide the popper solenoid back to adjust the pull on the lock. Not much more than that. Getting the interior of the door off the first time isn't fun, but I don't remember any big problems.

I am very close to where I-84 crosses the Hudson river if you want to come see it.

What were the issues he pointed out?

they took about 2 hrs a door, the pain was taking the door apart and putting it back together. I would do this to a gen.2 if I had one. I used lock motors I pirated outta an old tempo. It was easy!!!! Didn't cost me a dime!!!! Best type of mod!!!

The install IS EASY - it just takes time. Like I said above, taking the door apart takes time, but nothing is HARD. I realize time is money.
DO IT.

Tom,
Where were you able to find the replacement rubber bellows?
The dealer is telling me that they are only available as complete wiring harnesses, at ~$120 a pop!
Also, when you took out the stock seat belts, were you able to unbolt/detach them from the bracket without cutting anything? I've got a set of 5 points in mine, and would like to remove the stock belts as I don't use them, and they seem to rattle quite a bit (plus I won't get questioned about not using my belts....).

Thanks!
