Wouldn't it be harder to make a fire resistant suit if there was two pieces.

Much like a two piece snow suit. When skiing, the first time you bite it you get snow inside you suit.

Cody is correct.

The purpose of a driver suit is not to be comfortable but to protect the driver from fire/burns.

But all driver suits are not created equal even if they all have to be SFI rated.
The last # on the SFI rating as in 3-2A/1 give you the approximate time that you will have before having severe burns.

Grade Time

3-2A/1 3 sec
3-2A/5 9.5 sec
3-2A/10 19 sec
3-2A/15 30 sec
3-2A/20 40 sec.

I dont think any 2-piece (Top + Bottom) carry the higher SFI ratings. To get the race-sanctioned ratings you need a full "overall" suit. The extra layers add longer flame protection time, and add to cost....and discomfort in hot weather....

Even a CoolSuit can cost you a race if the cooler leaks......

Hey Guys,

I've got two 'one piece' suites for sale if anyone wants to take a peek.

1) Sparco Prima Top, Size 56. This suit was worn twice. If you're around 5' 10" and 170lbs, this is all you. Check it out here: http://www.sparcousa.com/racewear.asp?sub_id=1&inc=thumbnail&sub_section=1&type_id=flash

I paid $1,050 new and want $500 for this one.

2) Auto Pro NomexIII suit in Large. Worn a couple of times. Black with white stripe.

$100

Hi guys,
I wear Nomex suits for a living(helicopter Instructor Pilot) and we use both one piece($125) and two piece($450) suits. Most guys like the looks of the one piece plus it is much cheaper. We also believe they protect better. The two piece suits are more comfortable, but are horrible looking. Beside the cost(which actually the ya'll are paying for(tax payers), most guys would use the one piece, and they look better when we're at the club. Chicks dig them!
