Will dynamatting the door improve sound quality of front speakers? I heard dynamatting could improve midbass response. Where would you apply the dyamat - I would guess behind the speakers since the speakers are screwed into the lower part of the door assembly...

thanks

Attach the Dynamat to everything you can. It is heavy, and will add weight to the door. On my old truck, I stripped down the interior and added about 200 lbs. of Dynamat. Just make sure you don't cover any drain holes that may be in the bottom of the door.

The front doors already have a sort of dynamat. When you take off the trim panel there is a soft rubber like matting already in there. It does help the acoustics in making the car quieter. I wouldn't add any more to make it marginally better but adding a lot of weight.

If you decide to do it, you won't need to go nuts like I did. It was 200 lbs because I did the entire truck, dual layers in some areas. If you do the doors, it'll probably only be about 10 lbs. Sorry for the confusion!

Good point - chances are I will prob just do the doors. Again, will it be a noticeable difference before and after dynamat? Thanks

With your stereo upgrades, you'll probably notice a little bit of change. You'll find that you'll get less rattle when playing midbass in the doors, and it will sound a little tighter. The sound of the door closing will also change slightly because you are changing the resonant frequency with the mass of the Dyanmat. Dynamat basically adds mass to objects, and converts vibration to heat (so small you probably couldn't measure it). Before Dyanamt, guys used to use molding clay to add mass to doors. There are other types of damping material that spray on, and are designed to get into hard-to-reach areas like door panels. It's a small investment to try a small box of Dyanmat, so go for it. You can always add more in other areas or layer it up. I even used it on the underside of a stainless steel sink in my kitchen that would make a lot of noise when washing dishes. The dyanmat added mass to the underside and the pingy noise went away.
