I just installed Tom's 40MM calipers on the rear and EBC reds front and rear 97 GTS. Now I have a break squeak at low speed when I'm easy on the breaks is this normal for the EBC reds?
Thanks,
Glen

Change to Hawk. You wont be dissapointed.

+1 on this.
I put a set of Reds on mine and they squeaked badly. I tried everything and every break-in procedure, but it just would not go away. I changed to Hawks and they are completely quiet. I know some people love the reds, but I'm not one of them. I actually gave mine away to another member who likes them.
I followed the directions in the box. 40 mph then break easy 5 times 1 minute intervals. I did this 2 times.<----- has EBC reds that squeal, but possibly didn't bed them properly.![]()
Been using the reds with no issues. More aggressive bedding might help. I did my stops from 70+mph.

+1 on the Hawks...had enough of the reds.
I installed EBC Greens on my 14" Roe Racing slotted lighweight BB kit. Big dust issues so I went home after track day and JonB send me a full set of EBC REDs.
Then I bought a highly modified 2000ACR and the brake dust was realy sad (every 5 miles dusted the wheels). So I installed lightweight rotors and JonB sent me another full set of EBC reds. Stop-tech recommends that you break-in your brakes using 10 stops from 50mph-5mph, then drive for a half hour (without using brakes). Then stop 100mph - 5mph and drive for 45 min without touching brakes (or a similar proceedure). Since it's a 200mile trip to town I broke the pads in driving to the car show and after the second 'temper' I checked out my rotors to check on brake balance and all 4 rotors were medium blue colored from the intense heat. Perfect! Both my front 14" ABS and my 13" 2000 Vipers colored equally and the brakes are perfect! I have no clue how you guys living in the city could possibly get the necessary amoung or road to properly brake in your pads?
No squeal and brakes are awesome (even the 13" eradispeeds).

Thanks Ted,
I'll give it a try in the morning I have a 200 mile drive tomorrow. They seem to work great it's just that squeal right at the end of braking. Rolling up to a stop sign.
When I did my last couple high speed stops there was small clouds of blue smoke drifting away.
I had EBCs on my 98 GTS with Tom's rear calipers and they were great as well.
If you get a chance go to Stoptech's website and read the break-in instructiosn listed there. The 50-5mph stops were light application while the 100-5mpg were medium to stiff brake apllications.
After I broke in My Roe Racing brakes then first full stop application I used ruined my wheel alignment!

I have reds and no squeal. I did the bedding per the instructions with the pads. I do have 14" SRT brakes on my Gen 2 tho.
+1 on the Hawks. I'll go with HPS when I'm tired of the lack of stopping performance of the reds. But they keep the wheels clean LOL.
i have the reds with NO squeeling at all. i bedded them per the instructions. but i do also have aftermarket drilled and slottet rotors. dunno if that makes any differance.
It is normal for the EBC's to squeal, especially in the beginning. I did the full bed in process and they still made noise for a while afterwards. That bed in process is crap. I'd say after 500 miles I no longer have any noise at low pressure braking.
