From Edmunds: Beyond that, the Viper's monstrous 295/30ZR18 front and vast 355/30ZR19 rear Pirelli P Zero tires make the Corvette's 245/35ZR19 front and 285/30ZR20 rear run-flat Michelin Pilot Super Sports seem puny.

Since when did Super Sports become run-flats? Do they make then in a run-flat variety now or something?

That being said, Corvette and Viper have always played leapfrog throughout the years. The original Viper was crazy in your face style and power that trumped the current Vette offerings, but the Vette shot back with the ZR1 in the 90's and later the Z06 with the C5. You know that the Vette will step up the game with a new ZR1, so I'd expect Viper to be working on something to compete with it before too long. The T/A is a possibility, but probably more suited to Z06 competition. I'm guessing a new ACR (if they make one) will be some crazy over the top car designed with the ZR1 in mind. Granted I wish the base Viper would have more handily beaten the base Vette performance wise since I've always liked the fact that the Viper only comes in two flavors, fast and crazy fast, but for a comeback after a few years away they aren't doing a bad job.

EXACTLY !!!!

The Viper is the " Metalica" of Cars.... not everyone likes Metalica or think they are the best musicians in every aspect and are little rough around the edges..
The Corvette is great but its like :Rush or Pink Floyd....more refined and deliberate in execution ..still freaking great..but not what I am looking for in a car to capture my emotional, performance and X factor needs,,,,

Ha! I like Metallica and Pink Floyd but I definitely will put Master of Puppets or the Black album in my ears when going to the gym to get fired up. Pink Floyd is for reflection, not adrenaline.

I really wish SRT would offer Michelin's as a factory option. The bottom line is Pirelli's are overpriced and **** in comparison to the Michelin's. Listen to the tire feedback in the video. The Pirelli's are squealing too soon and too loud. The Michelin's are quiet and composed. Either the Pirelli's are just too loud when giving feedback, thus scaring the driver, or they just can't compete with PSS's period. The Gen1/2 can match the cornering G's and skidpad numbers of the GENV when you throw PSS's on for crying out loud. A 1.01 skidpad is 1/100th more than a GEN1 with XGT's.

SRT: BRING BACK THE MICHELIN'S!!!

Vette's are good cars for anybody that would want to own one. Good for the masses but no comparison to a hand built 1/1000 American true supercar. IMO

Looks like it. "This vehicle, when new, had run-flat tires." 2014 Corvette Owner Manual 10-44. Good gravy, customer cars are only now rolling off the line and nobody's even gotten theirs yet, but already it's WHEN this thingy was new, it USED to have RFs, back in the day, sonny.

Whaaaat? Corvettes don't bleach their paint and ****** children.

I'd say Corvettes are Saving Abel, Saliva, Disturbed, Godsmack, Charm City Devils, In This Moment, All That Remains, even Nickelback.

Vipers are Pantera, Cannibal Corpse, ****** Death, Bloodbath, Darkest Hour, Sworn Enemy, Behemoth, Slipknot, 3 Inches of Blood, Slayer, Hatebreed, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Battlecross (also from Detroit), Amon Amarth, Whitechapel, Upon a Burning Body, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Opeth, Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Demon Hunter, Cephalic Carnage, Decapitated, Meshuggah, Dying Fetus, Entombed, Soulfly, Pig Destroyer, etc., etc., so on and so forth and what not.

Nobody is Metallica. Biggest sellouts in metal history and XM Channel 40 is going to play them for 3 weeks straight!? What ***** ordered that up?

But either of them can be Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Ratt, Quiet Riot, or any band that ever had Ronnie James Dio (sa-lute).

P.S. Hey, why did Jim Morrison cross the road?

ANSWER: to buy some Heroine ???
heehee, no, to break on through to the other side, BREAK ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE ...

Run-flats, or zero-pressure or whatever, are not a factory option on the Gen V, and there's no spare, so I hope they give you a can of Slime or something for an additional $995.

Wait, lemme look up the 2013 User Guide ... ah, it comes with Tirefit kit. Some say this makes run-flattedness unnecessary, and non-RFs handle better and cost less, so who needs RFs. Others like me would rather have RFs, not least because it took me less than 3,000 Corvette miles from new to pick up a teeny metal frag that let all the air out in minutes, and then many miles later came a nail in the right front and a screw in the left rear (quit giggling). On each occasion RFs were a great comfort, and ran for hundreds of miles until I could get to the dealer (the bigger Badyear shops can fix their own RFs, but for some reason GM lets only THE selling Chevy dealer fix RFs) for repairs.

If I can get a Gen V I'll probably stay with OEM tires and just try not to run over any more scrap metal, but Tadge and crew designed the C7 from the ground up for RFs. I hope they're less than $2,600 a set like the Mich PS2s on the 427, a major factor in deciding not to buy a 427 since I drive enough to have to change every tire every year at least.

11.72 @ 124 Mph.That quarter mile time is terrible for a 640 HP car....Full second(10 cars) behind the stock Turbo S,GTRs and Mclarens in the quarter....

Because every Gen V runs 11.72@124 and every Turbo S, GTR & Mclaren run 10.72 in the quarter at every track on any day at any time.

Haha, interesting. Guessing is probably more or less getting at "original equipment tires were run flats". Not really sure why they wouldn't say it that way as opposed to the weird dating. All the same, I still find it interesting that the make a run-flat Super Sport when I don't think any of the other ones are run-flat.

I'm not hating on the Gen V... I want one. This test just shows how far behind the Viper is going to be when the Z07 and ZR1 versions come out. The Vette is half the price of the Viper...they will sell more C7's next year than all Vipers sold...ever.

Viper Smith,I know how fast the Turbo S is and my 3 Vipers...Just trying to remind the dudes at SRT we(Customers) want the Gen.5 to compete with the new HP Cars.I am ready to add a new Gen 5. to the fleet, but it has to be bumped up.If not,I,ll get a new C7 Z06 or ZR1.Believe me ,they will be insane.I had a C6 Z06 and ZR1,they were very quick...

I don,t want to see the Viper discontinued, make it faster, lighter and make it affordable and the Snake will be fine...

The C7 sales campaign has made a point of telling everybody we have Michelins now, after so many people whined about the Goodyear Eagle/Eagle F1's short life and poor handling. I was pretty sure they said run-flat too, since that was C6 policy and everybody's used to it. A high fraction of Corvette customers are non-enthusiasts who just want a cool car that gives them lots of fun and no trouble, so leaving them stuck with a flat and no spare waiting for a tow truck is not a mental picture GM could live with.

Right now I'm running Mich all-seasons on my C6 base coupe, which still have treads after 27,000 miles. The 427 vert came with PS2s and the Z06/Z07 and ZR1 Ultimate Performance Package came with Pilot Sport Cups. All of these are run-flat. Some say RFs can't possibly handle as well as non-RFs and will always cost more. They probably always will cost more, but even though I don't know enough to say whether RFs will never handle as well, I do note that the ZR1 that got Ralph so exercised had RFs, as did the Z06 that won Corrode & Crack's Best Drivers Car test a year or two ago.

I agree with you in that I think the Viper should have more HP. It is "easy" to get a 8.4 litre engine to 700 na. We know this because people did it with the Gen4. However, I challenge you to write a post without bringing up your Turbo S,. We get it, the Turbo S is fast in the quarter. Still doesn't come close on big tracks to the Viper. A rear engine turbo awd car SHOULD destroy the quarter.

Anyone want to wager/bet that the Viper by 2016 will have 700HP ? wait until the 700 HP (guess?) ZR1 debuts in 2016 after the Z06 come out in 2015...????

The problem is that in 2016 the other cars will also have moved on in tech and power, handling etc. So what will 700hp do then in this same package 2 years too late? 700hp is not going to make the Viper consistently compete with MP4-12, 911 Turbo S, GTR in the straights etc even now much less with those cars possible upgrades factored in for 2016. Unless SRT addresses the suspension tuning, launch control, weight loss along with the power. That isn't going to happen imho for two reasons. One, WEAK R & D budget. Two, if they can't get simple things like a properly prepped press car for tests, delivering cars on time etc then SRT has a lot of work to do before they can get to making the Viper more than a one trick pony performance-wise. They have bigger problems internally than the Viper imho.

There are thousands of engineers around the world working diligently to ensure that their cars don't feel like a Viper. On the street, the Viper throbs and rocks noticeably at every stop light. Its ride is stiff and transmits every pebble on the road straight to your coccyx; the steering is heavy and the pedals take a firm push to operate. Throw in the ergonomic challenges of ingress/egress, the scant outward visibility, the sheer noise from the massive explosions occurring in the engine bay and the almost nonexistent cargo space and the result sounds like misery.
I think that was meant as a negative for the Viper...... but it's everything I love about the car.

I'm currently about 6k miles away from your location, but when I get a bit closer, wouldn't mind putting in some track time with you. I'm not too far from Florida. You will have to let me practice a bit before we race =P I haven't driven in about 8 months.
