Eibach Spring Install Question

OK.. I've had the Eibach kit for my 1996 RT for about a year... my Viper is up on jackstands awaiting new wheels/tires... so what the heck.. let's install those Eibachs!

So I have all the stock springs off..... adjust the Koni's (full stiff front, 3/4 stiff rear) and start installing the new springs.

I checked the archive to make sure I was installing the longer springs on the front shocks.... compress spring.... install cap... rubber stop in place... release spring...... spring is loose on shock.

I can actually spin the spring on the shock... clearly I have done something incorrectly..... but what?

Any ideas?

You can spin the spring when the car is up on the hoist? Or when the car is on the ground? If the car is up on the air. Then you need to put it on the ground and then drive it around. The suspension has to settle..

I have not installed the springs back on the car yet. Only one front coil is installed on the shock... and I can rotate the spring on the shock.

Doesn't seem like I should be able to do that.

Anyone who has installed a set of Eibach springs.... were the springs loose on the shock?

Did you put the car on the ground and drive it around first?

I'm a little nervous to do that .... seems that as loos as the springs are... it would make an awful noise and maybe damage something if the suspension "unloaded"?

I know that with the weight of the car on the suspension there would not be any "looseness"... but still.. this can't possibly be correct.

Several folks on this board have installed these springs... fill me in... is this correct? Were your springs "loose" on the shock immediately after installation.. before the shocks were installed on the car?

They're fine. Install them.

my springs turned on the shocks prior to instalation on the car, but there was not any slop in up and down movement
between spring and shock

They will spin freely, that is normal. Once in awhile you might hear a faint click. But I have inspected mine, no problems. The springs are shorter (lowering kit).
More importantly, don't forget to get an alignment done to your car. Your negative camber and your toe in will be greatly affected by these springs.

I can tell you it won't be no 4x4.
You have to be careful, not a whole lot more than normal. Just pick your approaches carefully. I can also say it's not as bad as I expected it would be. Here in Manitoba our roads **** compared to what I have seen south of the boarder. Hell your back roads are as good if not better than our highways in most cases.
I don't have very many problems.

The springs dropped my car more than 1 1/4 inches.
I don't have any good pics since I lowered it. If I have time, I'll take some tonight.

96 RT/10 can be a tricky year to specify parts for. Your NAME is not in your profile so I cannot see if PartsRack sent you the Eibachs. Id like to think we would NOT send you the wrong kit. Maybe your e-dress just seems familiar.

I invite your call or mail..... We can be sure you did not receive the wrong springs in the first place, from whomever......

Thank you for the offer.... I am not sure how to add my name to my profile.. but I have purchased parts from you... and called with lot's of questions!

I'll drop a call to you! FYI... I purchased the springs from another VCA member... I think he didn't like the Eibachs and took them off.

The part numbers matched the suspension for Gen 2.. which is what I understand as being correct for my 1996 RT?
