Emergency brake POPS and has a spring sound when pulled up high ... normal? ---

When I pull up on my emergency brake really far ( I guess TOO far ) it will make a POP and Spring coil sound ... THEN its loose.

I pull it down and back up and its fine ... I just make sure I dont pull too far.

Is this normal?

Am I just pulling too hard/far? I just want to make sure its fully engaged at all times when parked!!!

Mine does that too... i just lift til it is tight and put it in gear. Owners manual recommends putting the car in reverse. A good way to see how tight you need the parking brake to be is to park on a slope and engage until the car will not roll backward. Mine requires less tension than I thought..

Good idea, I will test it out that way ... seems to be fine after the sound, but I wanted to make sure I didnt need to adjust or fix something ---

The grease on the ratchet mechanism can dry up, I lubricate them with ZEP45 which is like TriFlow, you might want to try that.
