I haven't checked my 2001 RT/10's emissions sticker (it's retired for the winter), but I'd assume it's up pretty soon in Connecticut.

My question is has anyone taken theirs into an emissions center and what was their experience?

Heck I don't valet park my car. Nevermind have some 18yr-21yr old minimum wage kid drive my car onto a spinning dolly and shifting my gears to measure the CO2, CO, N, and whatever else coming out my tailpipe.

I'm probably worrying about nothing. But I feel like I will be taking my baby into see the doctor... only I trust my doctor, not these clowns. They shouldn't require any car under 5 years old to take an emissions test. It's all just a blatant taxing scam to raise revenue IMHO. $30 just to give me a sheet of paper that I already know will list "Pass".

That is until I put some NOS in, aftermarket headers, new exhaust system, etc.

Speaking of which, anybody ever fail emissions due to some after-market upgrades?

I had the same worries last year. I went to get my emissions tested before I got my Headers, exhaust put on.
Anyways, don't worry about some kid driving your car on a dolly , as they will just hook it up to the computer and after about 30 seconds you will be on your way!
All the guys working there were a little upset they couldn't get in it and stomp on the gas!! He did mention that the Gen I Vipers still had to be on the Dolly though!
You are safe!

I have these same worries, too. Also, in my case, the seats are in a fixed position with the 2" drop - perfect for me at 6'5", but they won't be able to reach the pedals (& I ain't moving the pedals for them, either).

Last year the lady didn't want to get out of my Dodge Ram truck because she liked the heated leather seats and her money maker was cold.

It's just another way for the state to steal $19.50 every two years. My daughter's smoking '88 Dodge Grand Caravan Passed easily in 2002, so I know the emissions test is a fraud.

Kenny,

$19.50 every two years? You are lucky! Try Georgia... just had all of my vehicles inspected. $25 each vehicle, EVERY year. Ad valorem tax, too. $1000/year for the Viper alone :(

I heard that next year in Texas the owner isn't even allowed to touch the safetly emissions sticker that goes on the window - which means some 18 year old is going to rip of the old sticker and stick the new on......

They did a lousy job on my pickup and I mentioned that I'll do the sticker myself on the Viper - I was told it will be illegal to not have it done by the emission testing person.

I'm already looking to find a "viper" friendly emission testing facility.

I just had my '96 GTS tested here in Washington. They just hooked into the computer (once they found it) and took a reading. They only do the old "probe up the tail pipe" thing for '95 and older cars. The guy (middle aged) loved the lumpy idle and the exhaust sound. By the way, it passed.

Forgot to mention - the last time I had my '94 RT/10 tested the guy looked all over and under the back of the car trying figure out where to put the probe. Too funny. Then he asked me if it had 6 or 8 cylinders.

You should worry - especailly in CT. Had mine tested in Waterbury and failed the first time. Not because of upgrades but it hadn't had the carbon blown out for awhile. Second time around the guy had the right rear wheel rubbing against the dolly. Rounded the sidewall pretty good but I didn't discover it until later. Do yourself a favor and make sure they set it up on the dolly right.

Emissions stations in Connecticut are all closed down. I think that when the emissions inspections start again, they will be done by your local service station.

I would recommend always taking it to a dodge dealer or someone that would have to fix it if it doesn't pass. (since it is under warranty) I've never had an emissions test fail.

I have COLLECTORS plates on my '93. Call the BMV and have yours switched, no ECheck needed!!!! It only costs a few extra bucks per year. It does not go by age but by some published list of collectible cars. I have them on my Prowler too.

Great! I feel much better knowing the local service stations will be doing it now.

Yeah, I knew they were closed and knew they were moving to local stations. I think I'd prefer the old way. At least then it was fairly centralized.

Thus, they may get 10-20 Vipers per year on the dolly and have some practice.

Now if i go to some local station, chances are they've NEVER tested a Viper.

I will be guarding my 18" rims religiously... There were be BEFORE and after digital photos of the rims. You can bank on it! :p
