My '98 miserably failed emissions check twice recently, then passed (barely)- I put new gas and fuel injector cleaner in it (don't know if that helped), and charged the battery and it passed. I have been told that if you have a dead battery, it takes several run cycles before it runs right again. I am thinking that the car probably had a dead battery and was jump started right before I bought it.
