Hi looking for some help. I have a 05 Ram SRT-10 which has a noise when under load under 1500rpm and its a slight clack/tick and its not consistent and when under cruise/light throttle. I pulled the covers and found #1 and #10 rockers had been touching the oil baffles. Modified the baffles...still there... checked all rockers and pushrods...all seem fine...engine is stock....any ideas?

is it possible its spark knock. usually caused by to much timing, poor fuel or to much compression.

If it's happening at low rpm's (which at under 1500 rpm's it sounds like it is), it's probably preignition or spark knock as previously stated. Check your timing, plugs, and fuel.

plugs are new, compression is stock and I have tried some different fuel. It is definately not detonation but there must be some reason why the rockers were touching the covers also. the noise is really hard to pin down to an area

If the rockers were contacting the valve covers, have you checked to see if the pushrods might have gotten bent? Bent pushrods would cause some detonation issues.

Yep checked rockers and pushrods and even had an engine guy check them and measure them they are all the same and in perfect order.

We havent got that far in to it. I think I will try a compression and leak down test next. I am in New Zealand and no one knows anything about Viper motors in this neck of the woods

Just to confirm, the baffle is in no way deformed and hanging down, the rockers and pushrods are stock...?

If so, it looks like you have had a lifter pump up for some reason, a valve stick open, etc. Have you missed any shifts recently and over-revved the engine? Also, take a really good look at the springs on that cylinders' valves, make sure they arent broken. Make sure the pushrod is the correct length and the valve actually closes, the cam lobe is OK, and the lifter isnt damaged or sticking in the lifter bore.

Basically the only way that could happen would be if for SOME reason, the lifter pumped up, and opened the valve for more than normal, which would take a lack of pressure on the valve side or a stuck piston/bad roller/axle in the lifter to accomplish. [or the rockers came loose, but you said they were tight]

Thanks for helping me out.....
Baffles were in perfect order except where the rocker had been touching. Number 1 cyl where the baffle is could have been pushed down due to the oil cap being there and someone could have put a funnel in there when changing oil and pushed the baffle down but that couldn't happen on #10.

All pushrods and rockers are stock and I don't believe the covers had ever been off until I took them off.

I really looked at all springs (as well as 2 mechanics) and we pushed them down by hand...checked install height...everything seems to be fine and the same. No overrev as this is an auto 05 Ram SRT
