You were lucky. Soon after I got my '96 GTS (16 years ago), a cop gave me a speeding ticket. I know that I wasn't exceeding the speed limit. I think he just wanted to brag to his cop buddies about getting a Viper.

My buddy got one of the 1st gen IV's in SoCal and he let me take it for a ride. I was in a 35 mph limit street and punched it to about 80 when I passed a sheriff's car, lights come on I pull over I didn't have my license on me (left it at the office) no reg. no plate, I'm thing I'll be in handcuffs soon. The Sheriff was so enamored with the car he was actually stroking it asking me all kinds of questions. He let me go and didn't even give me a warning.
