I was watching the speed channel and saw a commercial for collector car insurance for a place called Hagerty.

I went onto the site at www.hagerty.com and noticed that they insure Exotics such as the Dodge Viper and at a decent price. They insure vehicles that are not daily driven.

Do you know of any other insurance companies like this or that may offer higher coverage or cheaper pricing for us, as it seems we get to pay the highest insurance rate possible on the face of the earth :smirk:

Post your specialty insurance companies here:

There have been some threads with information about Hagerty.
As I remember, there were some serious restrictions. Check it out.

Not to start another insurance thread but...

I don't know why people think Vipers are so outrageous to insure. I pay roughly the same for my '94 Viper as I do for my '02 Neon... right around $1k/year. And I'm only 24!

A lot of people pay relatively little to insure their Vipers... do a search.

Well with a 97 Viper GTS and being 28 and married with a perfect driving record, Progressive wanted 1762.00 per year! **** **** ****

Im looking for the best place to insure and i definately dont want many restrictions :(

I agree with Matt. Shop around some more. I'm 25 & only pay $1050 with Amica. Thats unlimited mileage, full coverage, and in NJ.

Call them up 800 38 AMICA - see what they offer

Ditto what Joe said. I put maybe 2k miles a year on my car and it seems ridiculous to pay "regular" Allstate rates for up to 7,500 miles as a non-daily driver, so I checked with one of the specialty outfits you're describing. The result: for 3k miles a year the cost was maybe 10% less than what I'm paying now, and the restrictions were unbelievable. It covered pleasure driving only--that is, driving and not PARKING, like at a mall, store or anywhere where the car would be unattended, and there were several other similar things that all sounded to me like a recipe for the denial of a ton of claims if the company so chose. I don't regularly use the car to run errands, but if I want to stop by the local Autozone during a cruise and pick up something and someone damages the car in the parking lot I don't want to worry about coverage. I think in general you're better off to shop for the best rate you can get through a traditional carrier.

Alot of difference is where you live. If in the city and tell them that it's a daily driver you're in big trouble!!! Alot of insurance co.'s ask where you live and work. When I told them I had a co. car they said "oh, that makes a diff. on rates",,, saved me a ton of money!!!! My ins. agent insured it as a 40k car period, didn't matter what make or model it was, just had full coverage to replace at 40k. And I have 2 speeds on my record!!!!! I think it's about 1200 for the year!!!! Have to be smarter than the ins. co.!! :2tu:

I insured a porsche once through Leland West. The only thing was that it could not be my daily driver and I had to have a car for each of the other licensed drivers in my home. Although it had limitations it was still very affordable.

Well [******], I have a daily driver, AND I gave them my parents' address that is out in the country, and it's still $4,000/year! One ticket, no accidents! Knock on wood!

I use Leland West as well. The rates are pretty decent but I just don't like their renewal policy. My policy expires on 3/24 but they wanted the renewal premium by January!

I live in Tampa Fl, and the rates are higher. But still not bad for a daily driver 1994 Viper. State Farm 485.00 every 6 months. Full coverage and towing. If I lived and worked in Pasco county the insurance would drop down to 348.00 every 6 months. Shoot I knew I should have bought a house in pasco. Most insurance companys will charge you a higher price if you have never had an account with them and then reduce the rate once you have been with the company for 2 years. I have been with State Farm for 30 years. They can never cancel me no matter what! yepeee!!!!
So shop around and ask if the rate will go down after a time period.

While we are on the topic of Insurance..I'm at a crossroad.
Should I tell my insurance about all the $$ i have invested in my Viper ?? I'm worried they will cancel my policy if I tell them that I have a TT .

The other issue is they may hike my premiums through the roof !

Thanks !

Jeff
