So, Lee, you seem to be knowledgeable about collectability....any thoughts on a 1:24 1991 Indy 500 Edition RT/10? I picked it up yesterday and had never seen one before in either 1:24 or 1:18. Of course, that doesn't mean they haven't been around, but this one I intend to keep in the original box with all the Indy 500 markings on it.

Here's a pic:

This is pretty much the only "collectable" one I have of the 12 I have now. I basically wanted to represent one of each available color and not get caught up in the Bburago vs Maisto version of the same car.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks much!:2tu:

I'm absolutely not an expert with 1/24, I decided early on to collect only 1/18. But my rule has always been run a search on ebay and if it ain't there it's at least somewhat rare. I would hold on to that one, I could not find one anywhere even with a couple of my work search tricks which work on the whole net.

Agreed! I did some searches, on Ebay and internet in general, and could not find even one other. Since it was in a clearly marked box, thought it was legit and possibly pretty rare.

Thanks much.

Wow, the second one was cheap, $3.99! Clearly not a big market, but again, I'm not picking these up for investment. I paid $15.50, but saved on shipping since I bought others from him.

My searching shows up a bunch of 96 GTS's. Wonder if they made a 1:18 version?

I have the '96 GTS version in 1:18. I did not find an RT/10 in 1:18. The scale18.com site only shows the '96 GTS as a 1:18 Indy model.

96 RT10s are available in 1/18.... Black/silver, white/blue and the infamous red and mustard cars. You won't find the last two on ebay, they are beyond rare, you can pick up a black silver occasionally. there is one on ebay right now you just won't pick it up with a conventional search.

The 1991 1/24 scale is not terribly rare but a good find none the less. I collect primarily Indy 500 Viper Pace Car items and I have a few of each scale. I have never come across a 1/18 91 but I have the 96 pace car in several scales.

I have the 1:18 black RT w/silver stripes. Do not have the white & blue stripes or the Mc Viper, but these two (if they did become available) would be way too expensive for my needs. Here's an older picture that has all the 1:18's I have so far. Have the yellow/red stripes (don't particularly like it) and the other one I would add would be the red with silver stripes....but the one's I've seen are too expensive:

Peter, does your black/silver have the Gen I or Gen II wheels? I'm guessing the Gen II. The version with Gen I wheels is much harder to find.

The black/silver in 1:18 with Gen 2 wheels is pretty common. The scale18.com site doesn't list one with Gen 1 wheels so I didn't know about it until I saw one for sale.

Mine has Gen II wheels. Was there ever a real black RT that had Gen I wheels? I thought the black/silver was a '96, which didn't come with Gen I wheels.

You guys keep watching them, the one with Gen 2 wheels is the rare one, it has a black interior as well. The White/bue stripe and the red/mustard car all have Gen 2 wheels and they are all really rare along with the true black one. You can find the one with gen 1 wheels all the time. scale18 is meaningless in the real world. And no I did not out bid you, I have several of those. If you find one with gen 2 wheels you grab it, although I might be there first. I found mine by accident 2 years ago and have only seen one since.

Okay, just checked...don't have either rare versions, oh well. Have the black RT with silver stripes, Gen II wheels but tan interior and the all black RT with Gen I wheels and gray interior.

Oh well! And to think, wouldn't have made much difference, since I threw out all the boxes. :D

So, the Indy 500 Edition, 1991 RT/10 arrived today. But, I'm a bit pis-ed, as the outside shipping box had two punctures and, of course, the Ebay seller didn't protect it from the inside so the factory box plastic window got ripped. Now, I know I don't normally care about having the box, but because this one was more unusual and dare I say slightly rare, I decided not to take it out of the box and display it as originally packaged. I will still do that, but pretty annoyed!

I did send a note to the seller telling him that his packaging left something to be desired and as a result, the plastic got punctured...in my mind, totally his fault.

I'm sure nothing will come of it, but I won't rate his packing well at all.

I received an AutoArt GTS-R on Saturday and the seller did not secure the hood with the strap. During shipping, it was flapping around and knocked the driver's side mirror off and scratched the inside of the box. I emailed him as an advice on future shipping to be sure to lock down the hood. I did not ask for any compensation. I was able to reattach the mirror so it was just box damage. After a few emails (and pictures), he decided to refund $15 of my purchase. You never know, you may get something back for the devaluation of the collectors item.

No, I get that and he was very apologetic. He said he would try to work something out on the next thing I purchased from him but I checked his site and I already have all the RT's he is selling (thought maybe he was selling the white one). Not sure what to do at this point, take it out of the box and just throw the box out, or keep it in this slightly worn and torn box?

Keep it in the box until you find a replacement. Then you can have one for display and a "keeper" in a nice box.

I have an all white Bburago RT/10 in 1:24. It is still in the box. If it does come out of the box, it will go into one of the display cases. I'm probably going to sell off some of my 1:24 cars, but I'll hold this until you get spouse approval.

That's a nice offer, Mark. Please send me a PM on how much you would want including shipping - CT 06812. Not sure I like the white, but hey, if you don't want it.....:D

Yup, got the picture! She's actually quite good about my Viper "hobby", all she asks is that I keep my obsessive nature in check and don't spend lots of money on things I don't need. Too many 1:24s is one of those things she doesn't think I need.

So, luckily, I did pick up my last one yesterday, a white RT by Bburago...new in box, for the super-cheap price of $3.95. I'm happy and now I am officially done with my 1:24 collection of RT's. Using the list from above, here is where I ended up, having one representative of each - though a number of reds and a couple of blacks:

Red w/yellow wheels (McViper
Red Indy 500
Red w/black stripes, black wheels (custom)
Red Gen II (custom)
Silver
Green
Black chrome Gen I Wheels
Black silver Gen I Wheels
Black w/silver stripe
Blue & White
White w/blue stripe
Yellow
White

I need to get back to thinking what I need to do to my "real" RT in the coming months...once I finally decide to take the covers off it. :D

Is this the 1:18 black w/ black interior car you are talking about?

I also picked up the 1:18 white w/ blue stripe and white gen 2 wheels. I'm still looking for the McViper in 1:18.
