So I bought my first Viper and I am begining to think there is no way I can get any kind of warranty on it. First I bought the car from a dealer and Dodge is telling me that I cannot have the original factory extended warranty transfered to my name, because of this. Dodge is also telling me that I cannot buy an extended warranty because it is older than 3 years. Next I tried the internet. I found warrantygold.com and they will not warranty ANY vehicle in California.

So am I screwed here or is there something I can do?

BTW, the car is a 1999 ACR with 36,000 miles.

Thanks
Mark

If anyone can do it, the Wizard, Chuck Tator can do it for you. One of the most respected names here, almost up there with Levin (DLM).

Like these guys said, call Chuck. I asked him the same thing and he said you can get one 48 months from the in-service date. I believe your car went in-service in late 99 so you should still be good.

I purchased my 1998 GTS this year from a Chrysler dealer here in Ohio, it only had 11,000 miles on it but the dealer was able to get me a Chrysler warranty 3yrs 45,000 miles for it. (Cost was about $1500)

Just curious ... is there any limit on how many years a car can be covered? Why not just buy extended warranty after extended warranty an keep the car for 20+ years?

There comes a time when your car can no longer be covered. I think the 94's either just went out or are getting ready to.

Joe,

I purchased my '94 R/T 10 in 2000. The original owner purchased a 7/70 warranty which was good through March, 2001. Because it was still under that warranty, I was able to purchase a 4/48 Added Care Warranty (transferable) which will be in force until March, 2005. Total cost: about $1900.

It's hard to believe that I'll have an 11 year old car which will still be under warranty.

The peace of mind it provides is priceless.

According to The Wizard, he stated in a warranty thread that either now or soon, (when 04 rolls around), he can NO LONGER sell a warranty on a 94. Next year I guess it will be the 95's and so.
You misumderstood me. I assume you could get a warranty NOW, BEFORE the magic date comes around, on a 94, and it would be covered for X amount of MORE years.

I find that strange, I mean Dodge USA and Dodge Canada must be different.

I purchased my 96 viper RT/10 this past May with 12000 miles. The car had been registed in 1998 for the first time. Anyways, I put on a factory bumper to bumper warranty from Chrysler Canada (120000 km /5year) for $4200 dollars.

Costly, but may prove worth it in the end. At any point, I dont see why you wouldn't be able to put an extended warranty on the car. Is it a mileage thing? Has the car been in a previous accident and written-off? It should qualify

So... I could have my car under warranty for about 10 years and then purchase another 7-year warranty? I think 17 years of warranty coverage would be cool.

I think that the extended warranty is only for 3 years. Correct me if I'm wrong. I also tend to remember the Wizard saying that I have till the fall of 2005 to extend my extended warranty for a 96 GTS. So this should be the last year for the 1994.

94 is as old as you can go, and per stated by DC's guideline they must be purchased from the dealer at the time of the sale. 94 will disappear on Jan 1, 2004.

The Dealer could have sold you a contract at the time of sale, and I have no idea how he/she missed this opportunity for you both.

I bought my Viper in June and purchased an extended warranty days before the original ran out two months later. But talking with some Viper techs. They said that the things that break are not what's covered under the warranty anyway's. If something major goes bad you'll want to have a warranty. But basically the cars are strong and don't brake down a lot ( excluding the 3 batteries I've purchased in the last 5 months).
