I do have a degree in Physics so here is the real scientific answer to the question of which car is the fastest. Fast cars are always blue when they are approaching you and red when they are going away from you.

Consider two objects: the light source and the "listener" (or observer). Since light waves traveling in empty space have no medium, we analyze the Doppler effect for light in terms of the motion of the source relative to the listener.

We set up our coordinate system so that the positive direction is from the listener toward the source. So if the source is moving away from the listener, its velocity v is positive, but if it is moving toward the listener, then the v is negative. The listener, in this case, is always considered to be at rest (so v is really the total relative velocity between them). The speed of light c is always considered positive.

The listener receives a frequency fL which would be different from the frequency transmitted by the source fS. This is calculated with relativistic mechanics, by applying necessary the length contraction, and obtains the relationship:

fL = sqrt [(c - v)/(c + v)] * fS

Red Shift & Blue Shift

A light source moving away from the listener (v is positive) would provide an fL that is less than fS. In the visible light spectrum, this causes a shift toward the red end of the light spectrum, so it is called a red shift. When the light source is moving toward the listener (v is negative), then fL is greater than fS. In the visible light spectrum, this causes a shift toward the high-frequency end of the light spectrum. Obviously, in the area of the electromagnetic spectrum outside of the visible light spectrum, these shifts might not actually be toward red and blue. If you're in the infrared, for example, you're ironically shifting away from red when you experience a "red shift."

Ok, got it? All fast cars are blue when they are approaching you and all fast cars are red when they are departing. They are never yellow or any other color!

Newton solved this issue a long time ago!!!

Red light travels faster through a glass prism, and blue is slower.

Remember the spectrum ...."ROY G BIV"

SO, red is fastest, yellow and green are in the near-middle, and blue shades are the slowest!!! :)

...and, here is a WEAK link;

The hotter a gas, the further apart the gas molecules are
wouldn't that cause an overall expansion in the molecular structure of the matreial thus inflating the size of the body panels and creating more drag?

fL = sqrt [(c - v)/(c + v)] * fS

Since when is it a debate as to which color is fastest? Red is, and has been, the fastest Viper color since 1992. This thread is like starting a thread that debates whether the world is flat or not. Some people (i.e. any non-red, but mainly yellow Viper owners) will debate anything and simply ignore any facts that prove them wrong :D

I have to agree with most of the concusions. From experience I can say yellow does seem to really attacts bugs. I do think the possibility of getting pulled over by the police in a red car only makes it go even faster.

MMMMMM...Let's put an end to this colour debate...found this quote in a website (dodgeforum.com) to confirm the fastest colour..

"When the first year of Viper'***** the showroom, there were no options, but very few Viper buyers complained. All of the 1992 Vipers were Viper Red, with gray leather high-back bucket seats..."

my 2 cents (that's 3 US)..when introducing a new muscle car would why you make it look and drive slow...so they use the fastest colour!!!

END OF DISCUSSION !!!

While your facts are essentially correct your interpretation of them is misguided. Every racer knows that a car can travel faster around a larger radius turn. When blue goes through the prism it is bent less than red forcing it to travel further than red around the bend. However the larger radius means it can travel faster and it obviously does. It arrives at the same time around the bend as red but it traveled further. Speed equals distance over time. :rolaugh: Notice how fast this rolling laugh travels? Notice its color? Blue of course.

"Hope springs eternal..."

Please don't let facts get in the way of personal prejudice!! :)

I understand the dilema of those with "blue cars"...especially as we have one...but the fact remains that blue is a slow color...that's why sadness is called "the blues" !!!
