option! I love the Roe system but the tank had to go. :curse:
This is a modified version of Nadine's :2tu: tank but downsized reshaped and fabricated of aluminum.
I located a company in NJ who builds custom tanks to your specifications, click on my photos for the details.
It was $354 delivered and the carpet, misc fittings and paint added another $25.
Not sure if a group by would lower the costs, if there is enough interest it may be worth investigating.
Rick
The finished tank started as Nadine's cardboard template.

That looks great but the methanol will corrode aluminum. I made one a few years ago from polyethelyne.

Thanks guys for the heads up. I would like to point out that its 5052 aluminum.

A statement from the Aluminum Association:

Magnesium is one of the most effective and widely used alloying elements for aluminum, and is the principal element in the 5000 series alloys. When it is used as the major alloying element or combined with manganese, the result is a moderate- to high-strength, non-heat-treatable alloy. Alloys in this series are readily weldable and have excellent resistance to corrosion, even in marine applications.

The MSDS sheet on the washer fluid I'm using reads, the methanol content is 35% or less. At this dilution I'm not concerned.

Make sure you don't open your windows at high speeds. You blocked an air vent which was incoporated so that the hatch doesn't blow open when the front window is opened. Also if your air bag goes off the air will have nowhere to escape to. You could blow the windows, hatch or ear drums too.

Trust me the vent is not blocked. From the picture it appears that it's a snug fit but there is a gap between the vent, tank and wheel tub. Nadine, with a larger version of this design, has driven at speeds exceeding 200mph during track competition without a problem.

If I ever manage to go faster I will be certain not to roll the windows down. LOL

I don't think you realize how much volume of air needs to go through the vent within milliseconds. Just because there's a gap it doesn't mean it's not blocked. I've seen air bag testing years ago when the vehicle wasn't properly vented. The windows basically all just blew out.

I would imagine that unless this design is more restrictive than the vent itself (which isn't huge by volume), he's in good shape.

There's always the other vent too...did Dodge maybe plan the vent capacity so that one can do the job in case the other is blocked?

If the airbags go off....do we really care if the windows blow out ?
The corrosion part with a possible jet blockage is something to watch.

Absolutely! You hope to survive a crash right? When the windows blow you have flying glass all over. So if you survive you'll have lacerations as well as blown ear drums. The chances are low however there's still a risk.

There's a reason why they are there. The OEM's spend millions of dollars each year researching crash safety. The owner can defeat any of the safety systems and assume the risk. You should just be aware of what could happen. It's no different than someone replacing the passenger side airbag with gauges. It's obvious what the risks are but the vents may not be so obvious.

What I like the most about this site is the wealth of knowledge that can be gained from its members. :2tu:

Wouldn't the vents be more restricted if the tire well is loaded with boxes, suitcases, grocery bags etc? I know of one Viper owner who does this regularly.
Wouldn't it be in DC best interest to post a warning in the owners manual mentioning this hazard?

We engineers rely on data to substantiate our design work. I have found nothing, from sources I have access to, regarding the air bag and cabin venting. I'm not questioning GTSnake's expertise on this subject but I would have to see data from Dodge, specific to the Viper, to be convinced.

I would think it's more likely that if the vents were blocked and the air bags deployed, you would blow off your shoes and socks. Suffering the embarrassment of walking barefoot from the scene of an accident may now be worth it to some.

If you think thats bad, I had a GSXR 1000 blow my doors clean off this weekend - and my vents aren't even blocked.

They never post any warnings about blocking vents in any cars yet the vents are there. It is not definite that you will blow something if you block vents however there is that possibility. I know first hand that when I placed some rear speaker boxes close to the side vents I was getting resonance at certain speeds with the windows down.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who have blocked the vents with something or another with no problems whatsoever. I just would try to keep them clear if I could help it.
