OK guys this is by no means a review of the TA, but rather a first impression of the car as compared to a Gen 4. I got the car 2 days ago, so with only 150 miles on the car so far, here's what I like and dislike about the car...
Likes:
-Seats now can go up and down and hold me in place much better than Gen 4 seats
-Seats are firmer and more supportive, yet very comfortable in my 75 minutes rush hour traffic commute today
-Ride is firm but much better damped than the ACR, combined w/ the firmer seats car now won't bounce the occupant up and down like a trampoline
-Car feels a stiffer than my Gen 4 ACR with roll cage bolted in.
-Shift throw is shorter and crisper, almost no need to get a short shifter or short shift knob.
-Shifter doesn't shake at all
-Steering feel is good, turn in is good, probably due to the increased in negative camber
-New instrument cluster is much better and informative and 21st century
-Butt dyno says power is decent but not as good as the ACR w/ headers/ECU/hi-flow cats/ported intake (but really didn't get on it hard yet)
-Love the carbon hood and deck lid, wish the paint was translucent and allow the CF weave show through.
Dislikes:
-Too much wheel well gaps all around, especially in the front. Can someone recommend the proper sized wheel spacer? 20mm, 25mm, or thicker?
-Brakes though linear, efforts are lighter than in the ACR, too light for my taste. My reference brakes are Porsche's PCCB brakes and Lotus' which can be pushed very far w/o ABS kicking in.
-Steering wheel's rim is too thick - I always wanted a thick rim like in the M3, now after 2 days, I'd rather go back to Gen 4's steering wheel's thickness
-Plastic panels behind door opening rattle as they are held together by just a few clips and this is the worse part of the car so far. And they rattle already
-Manual seats don't go low enough still
-Front under splitter is too low. It sticks down another 2" from the front bumper and would scrap easily, easier than my lowered ACR as with the ACR I can take a driveway approach at an angle, with the under splitter on either side of the car, you scrape whether you go in straight or at an angle. I'll take them off of the car and only use them for track days.
-Rear CF lip looks trick but sits too high and blocks much of the rear view if you are not that tall. I'm 5'11 and still find the lip block the headlight of many cars behind me as I could only see the top half of some of the cars, especially the lowered rice rockets. Maybe that's why Chevy is doing a see through popup rear lip. I tried to adjust the rear view mirror up and then tilt downward to get an angle out to the rear but the new mirror only has one joint.
-Keyless is not really keyless as you still have to press the buttons on the fob to lock and unlock the car. Or did I miss the lock and unlock buttons on the car?
Even though I have more dislikes than likes, most of the dislikes are quite minor so overall the Gen 5 is a big improvement over the Gen 4. And that's it for now, will report back after I get some spirited driving in.
Here are a few pictures:
See those wheel gaps...
CF lovers, here's your fix...
Love the view down the side of the car...
The Orange paint is very well done, hardly any orange peel can be seen...
CF lip sits on top of the truck lid w/ an integrated lip already and blocks 1/3 of my rear view, not good for safely reasons and for sure my wife won't be able to see out clearly if I allow her to drive the car.
