Obviously, on the track is best, but the simple fact is that most rookies make a mistake at some point and get to learn about going "two feet in". I have spun several times at Putnam over the 10 years I've been going there, and only needed a vacuum afterward. Is there some trouble there in spots? Of course, but nothing like Road America, Watkins Glen, VIR, Sebring, or even Mid-Ohio, which are not ideal tracks for your first time out, as they are pro-racing circuits rather than club-racing tracks.
