I've searched previous posts and cannot find an answer. What fluids are reccomended for a gen III transmission and differential? Are aftermarket fluids better than OEM?
Thanks in advance.

Black Moon...be advised that adamlotus is DEAD WRONG about the tranny fluid...ALL Gen III's (2003-2006) use Mapar Synthetic Manual Transmission Lubricant 75W-85 as the transmission's factory fill !!!

2006 owners manual says "Synthetic ManualTransmission Lubricant SAE 75W-85 (Castrol Syntorq LT 75W/85)".

ATF+4 is the tranny fluid for the 2008 Vipers...and, is also used in the PRE-1999 Vipers that were originally filled with Dexron II-E or Dexron III.

adamotus brings up a great point....as JonB says "the year matters" !!!

Sadly, some of the Dodge Service Manuals have a little mis-info on some fluid issuesm(power steering fluid in early vs. late Gen III's for example)...so, ALWAYS check your owner's manual as well as HERE to be on the safe side!!

Thanks for the info. Any alternatives for the transmission besides the Mopar fluids?

Has anyone used Pennzoil Synchromesh in the Viper's 6 speed?

It's just a Tremec T-56.

I have the same trans in my Mustang Cobra, and let me tell you when I drained the factory fill Mobil 1 Syn ATF in that trans and refilled with Synchromesh (Pennzoil or GM) the trans shifts like butter. It's amazing.

When I get in the Viper, the shift quality is like how the T56 was in my Cobra BEFORE the Synchromesh treatment.

Since the Viper has a T56 can I use Synchromesh in it as well? I don't see a reason why not. :dunno:

Many TREMEC rebuilders in the hi po arena recommend this fluid.
