On the Viper V-10, I have pulled the heads on my engine to install the first of our STAGE II cylinder heads only to find that the stock heads, pistons, valves, combustion chambers and cylinder walls have absolutely NO indications of abnormal wear! This motor looks perfect.

I have untouched-up digital pics for anyone who wishes to see them(if someone can help me post them here, please)

This engine has over 11,000 miles since new and well over 200 nitrous/propane passes logged over the last 2 years and god knows how many nitrous passes on the streets. It is going back together on Tuesday(when I get back from a flying trip that starts tomorrow)with nothing other than our new heads and a set of gaskets!!

I hope that this evidence helps all of you who may be considering nitrous for your viper.

ViperMad, Thanks for helping me with these pics

Remember that these pics show the heads and pistons just as they looked when the heads came off. We had not yet cleaned any carbon from the surfaces!

Thanks for reading,

Actually, I've found that the long-term effects of nitrous use are: light-headedness, wheezing, coughing, short-term memory loss and..umm...oh...wait...you're talking about in a car!

Nevermind.

Dave,

Thanks, and thats typical of a nitrous engine. They tend to run cleaner as they burn more efficeint with nitrous flowing.

Bob Z,

As for other parts. Consider this; if you had 700 hp to the rear wheels all of the time how long do you think the drivetrain parts would last? As for mine, im still running the stock clutch, driveshaft, and rear end. Only the half shafts have been changed for safety reasons........I still have the stock ones that withstood about 50 nitrous passes on slicks WITHOUT damage.

I spoke at length with "Doc" Joe Giardina, and set him up w/ Vipermag for their Summer-2001 "BBQ-V-10" NOS article. {page 29}

Doc reports the same on his 1996 GTS as he found on his 1993 RT.

He has over 30k miles and hundreds of trouble-free runs on his 96 GTS, on the NOS-Propane combo......he even claims the NOS makes cleaner chambers, valves, and longer-lasting plugs.....

Pretty darn impressive.

Pulled our engine apart with a lot less miles on it and you couldn't find the [->] forward pointing embossed arrow without cleaning off the carbon.

Hmmm... between you and Wayne... Maybe a stock high 9 low 10 would be possible ????
