I don't know that you should keep opinions to yourself on here....that's what the site is about imo. Granted, I had rather you have done it on another thread

That said, I think everyone here agrees that old or hard tires are not a good thing on Vipers. Seems like there is just a discrepency in the time frame

Just curious, your four year rule......are your beliefs only for Vipers or all cars ? No slack from me either way.

i wish i did it on another thread as well, I took a beating, it has been burned into me to change tires between 4-6 years mostly from people on this board on performance cars like the viper that you take up to speed towards the 175+ mph to reduce the chance of a blow out and better control and predictability in cornering. I personally would feel much better and i believe statistically safer with newer tires. I feel it in my pocket when I change tires on the viper but better to be save then sorry IMO. Last year I changed out my Pirelli tires with good near new tread that still had the blue paint between them because I notice small cracking on the sidewall which were approaching 7 years old. As some say it does come down to the driver skills (I'm behind the curve compared to the guys that track) but we are all able to make mistakes and if I found myself in a situation where I went into a corner to hot I would want newer tire to give me a edge because I will need all I can get in the "oh crap" moment. I guess my believe should also be applied to all the cars I have owned in good practice however I never found that my tires lasted more than 4-5 years on my DDs

the previous owner observed the 7 year rule, i drove on them for something like 3 1/2 months to finished the season and after reading on a number of occasions the best thing was to change them based on what people were saying in threads, I put the viper away for winter then in the following spring I ordered new tires and rims, I made the old set my winterizing set so I avoid flat spots on my newer tires, so that took a little off the sting out of replacing those tires

Replace the tires at least every 6 years. If you're not sure, the minimum replacement time that is recommended by the NHTSA is six years regardless of use, with 10 years being the maximum service life for tires. Check your owner's manual for specific recommendations related to your car. And always err on the side of caution if you suspect your vehicle has tires that are over six years of age.

Interesting discussion regarding safety but it's also a major ride/handling and performance factor. A nice new set of Michelin PS2s will make the car both ride and handle better. Cheap way to enhance enjoyment IMHO.

Some of you guys have to stop picking on this car. He has it priced accordingly. You could change out the motor and put new rubber on it and for just over 40,000 dollars you could have yourself a very nice 0 mile car with brand new rubber. The rest of the car looks in great condition and would just need some detailing. 103,000 miles on the body of these cars means nothing realy. For those guys and gals out there who cannot afford a 450000 Viper , this is your chance to pick one up and slowly do it the way you want , when you want ( got money). Just my **.

We're messing with Tony on the pics of the rubber on the fenders. That's NOT on the car that is for sale. That is on his TT car. It's like a badge of honor to him.

I know what you are say and appreciate it.....for someone that can't afford the higher priced or lower mile car OR wants a car that they can rack up miles and drive anywhere anytime, this is it. I wouldn't buy it planning on putting a motor in....all cars need or will need tires we know. Before dumping a lot of $$ in it I would buy the 27k mile car for $42.5k.
On the engine, anyone with basic mechanical knowledge could overhaul this one......new bearings, rings, heads for under $1,500. I wouldn't though....at most I would check (might as well replace if checking) the rod bearings just like we did on V10speedluvr's car.....preventative maintenance. That was a few hours time and he can chime in on the bearing cost....I'll guess $150
If it was a different color I would really have to think about keeping it. Even though B/W is my favorite it's not much different than what I have. Maybe I could have a wrap done Flat black ? What else would look cool ?

Got what your swaying about not getting the engine replaced. What I realy was trying to say was, you could rebuild that motor into an SC or TT car and not have to spend the extra 20,000 for a low mileage car and then add up the engine work for the SC and or TT. That is what I would do with it anyway. I would put a SC or TT in it, color scheme would be the Oreca Cars Colors and scheme and put some nice wheels and rubber on it and Voila! theres a powerful looking and performaing machine that would outperform and out look most out there in my opinion anyway for under 50,000. You wouldntr find one for that anywhere.
Again I am surprised it is still around. If I had the extra cash right now I would not even hesitate to buy. Its still a 1996 in the Iconic Blue and White and the first year of the coupe GTS wich in my eyes was the foundation for what was to come. And did. You cant take that away from it, 100000miles or not !! It still looks at you in the face and says" you know what I am?!!"

Yah I was cruising back from amarillo, 5 week project just finished up. Its pretty easy to text 1 handed in areas of low traffic. It ***** to travel by helicopter so slow LOL
