You never specified whether the "GTS-R" you wanted was an authentic race car from the American Lemans Series, or one of the 100 replica GTS-R's (White w/blue stripes) that are street legal, GTS' with cosmetic upgrades?

Hi Joe!
The little reading I have done tells me there is the authentic GTS-R and then the 100 built in 1998 (you refer to) that were the street legal version known as the GT-2.
From what I pick-up from my friend, he would prefer the GTS-R authentic race car from the American Lemans Series, but "may" also consider the GT-2.
Everything depends on the condition, price, etc...
I hope this adds a little more clarity!!!...the novice blues...

Big difference.... cannot see how an individual could be thinking about "either one"....

GTS-R - purpose built racecar. Carbon fiber body, definitely not street legal. Built usualy by ORECA in France - cost new $250K. Last one I knew of on the market sold for about $180K at VOI and was transported to Europe to compete. Very few made....

GT-2 - 1998 Street car with a few upgrades - paint, decals, smooth tubes / filters, suspension(?), seats, commemorative assembly cam, etc. A limited edition street car. Cost new about $90K - periodically for sale for less. 100 produced.

Janni:

No disagreement about your authenticity statement, but quality and price also plays an important role....actually the total cost of doing business.

If someone is looking soley at cost ($90K vs $250K, I am sure they would make a quick decision. Regardless of the authenticity vs price issue, I just want to make sure, as a friend, I present him with all of the facts. Ultimately, he has to make the final decision.

Details in your posting, and the others, will help my friend to make a more intelligent decision based on facts and not opinions or perceptions.

In looking back through the VCA archives, I feel better that I was not the only person who seems a bit confused about the who's, what's, where's, etc. regarding the GTS-r and GT2.

Anyway, this person is learning the same as me except they just have a much bigger pocketbook to learn with!!

Thanks to you and others for your input.

As far as I can remember is there 47 GTS-R Race Vipers out there. Last time i was offered one, a worn-out early racecar, without engine and trans was the prize set to 100.000 USD. Anyway IF he realy want a REAL GTS-R are there a few available in Europe...

NJ you would be best served to contact some of the teams in Europe who have just finished their seasons. Chamberlin may have one but the last time it ran at LeMans (2000) it suffered a big off on Mulsane straight and looked bad. Zakspeed out of Germany (I think) has one. Brookspeed (GB) ran one last year. Oreca (FR)could build you a new one or they may have an old one sitting around which wouldn't be currently competative but may have interesting history. If you need help send me a private e-mail at [email protected] and I will see what I can dig up.

Special serial number in VIN and dash plaque, huge rear wing, many special prints and photos with autographs, special serial numbered car cover, front and side air splitters, BBS wheels...

Haven't seen one for sale in several months, but they had been selling for over $90K last year....
