Despite my goofy posts lately, this is for real. When I picked up my daughter tonight, she wanted some fast food since Mom/Wife wasn't home. Even though I saw it and even mentioned it to my daughter, I caught the curb with the left front when pulling up to the drive-thru. MAJOR CURB RASH! from 2mph!!! What an idiot!!

I used the search button and found about 7 threads. They all reference places that could fix the wheels for $75 to $100 bucks, but none gave any names or phone numbers. Can anyone help me out? I've got rash on my left rear <FONT COLOR="Red">[rim, Tony

Rash on your left rear? errr...

I know there are a bunch of places that do wheel repairs - BUT - you need to make sure they are qualified to repair your rim because it is NOT CHROME, it is polished and then cleared. You need someone who will do a factory job on it. I'd go local or at least somewhere that has experience. Give Kingman a buzz - as a racer I'm sure he's caught debris, or knows folks who have.

Bigs,

Don't be too harsh on your kid (since she wanted the fast food)...

I bet you can't wait til dust season starts up again (I went to Texas Tech in Lubbock for 8 years, and I could never clean out all that dust from my poor car)

Bigs, Bigs,

If you would have had your eyes off the 16 year old hottie feeding you your biggie sized fries, these kinda things wouldn't happen, you know what they say about following where your eyes are looking!!!!

Is it really that bad, at that low of speed? Or just seem bad to you right now, can you tell from a 'standing beside the car distance'?? Not sure how that would sit with me......

You could always get those tweedly-dee curb feelers and mount them from the sides, sweetness......

Simmer for a few and see if it's really that bad, I would venture that many shops would make a mess of the rim worse than the present situation?????

I didn't Bigsproof this, hopefully your too preoccupied to notice........

toss a few pics up if you have the time?

see ya,
Ryan

I know just how you feel did just the same as you when I picked up my car, yes same day!

However once I calmed down I got some wet and dry abrasive paper started at 80 grit with lots of water, down to 1000 grit with a bar of soap to reduce the cutting even more (old Rolls Royce Trick) and HEH Presto no more rash, take a bit of time but works well.

See you in Nashville

Thanks for your thoughts.... I'm at fault here but she still feels for me.... hard to ever get mad at her for anything!

ZX12, Since your post was so civil, I'll leave this one alone...

Gennie: "16 year old hottie....." How insightful... Although I think she was closer to 21....

It's bad, would cut your finger if pressure were applied. I'll try and post some pics later... Curb Feelers!

!

Paul Lacey: Thanks for the great post. I'm curious and worried about "feathering in" the clearcoat, once you get things sanded down?? Thanks

Bigs,
I did the "sandpaper" trick on mine after hearing about a number of people that tried getting their wheels refinished, and most not being happy. The clear on the wheels is powdercoat, and none of the wheel places I talked to would do that for a "reasonable" cost. Anyway, I am very pleased with how the wheels came out after sanding it. You can't see the "rub mark" and you can't tell that the lip isn't cleared in the 4" or so area I sanded. The area may oxidize over time, but I have not seen any yet. I figured it was worth a try prior to dropping money on potentially unsatisfactory results - and worst case, I would have to get the wheel refinished.
