Gas cover corroded

My 2001 GTS has slight corrosion around the gas cover. Any tips from the elders?
I am sure this has been addressed many times before, but the search was fruitless.

MGW had a super nice (expensive, but worth the money!) chromed GTS cap ... havent checked his website in years...

As mentioned by one others, can go with an MGW cap or send it off to be chromed.

I chose the chroming route and am very pleased with my choice.

Replaced mine a couple of years back-but-does anyone know of someone who can refinish (dissasemble,strip clearcoat, polish, reclear, and reassemble)a stock gascap for those people who want to retain originality? How pleased with the results were you? What can you expect to pay? I would probably have my old one redone, as stock replacement are few and far between, and eventualy my good one will probably need replaceing. Oh, yes, getting the assembly back on is the hardest part-I ended up using dishwashing liquid to slip it back on. That worked better than light oil.

I would be interested in this as well, my '97 gas cap looks like shiit and the MGW is nice but very pricey. A matt chrome plate or even shiny would be great.

Sorry, I was not precise enough, it is corroded where it touches the other metal (basically the bolts)

Took mine apart early cars are easy as they have brass pins that can be pushed out with a drift and a home vice. Later ones are a problem they have plastic parts for the hinge and latch and are much harder to dis-assemble so I bought a spare on Ebay which was well corroded. I then left the cap and latch at the platers for a coat of chrome and had the rest of the housing powder coated black to bring out the shine and it looks great.

Only problem is the gasket on the underside is glued to the cap housing so you need a square of rubber to make the whole thing water tight, I used an old car inner tube.

This is true, but in my case, I just bought a mopar replacement gasket. For some reason the gasket wasn't sized correctly, but a couple minutes with an x-acto knife fixed that
