Of any car that get's this type of performance, maintenance is actually very minimal. The Vipers are very reliable. If you delve more into what makes this car tick, it is a very archaic design with 2 valves per cylinder and not very efficient albeit very reliable. I love the fact that it does not sound tuned like a Ferrari but completely raw.
Excuse my ignorance, so please explain this efficiency you speak of:
A quick look at the latest model line up:
'10 SRT Viper = 8.4L, 20V, 600 bhp/650 ft-lb= EPA city/highway driving: 13/22 mpg
'10 Ferrari 458: 4.5L, 32V, 562 bph/ 398 lb-ft= EPA city/highway driving: 12/17 mpg
Both weigh about the same.
So, an archaic behemoth, with 2 extra cylinder manages to have a 30% better fuel efficiency than a V8? Sounds like the old V10 is more efficient (more power with less fuel consumed???)
Some other objective comparison:
Okay, let's look at bhp/L:
Viper: 600/8.4 = 71.4 bhp/L
F448: 562/4.5 = 124.8 bhp/L
Ferrari looks pretty good here when talking displacement, but why stop there:
Let's look at bhp/Valve:
Viper: 600/20= 30 bhp/Valve
Ferrari: 562/32= 17.5 bph/Valve
Dang, the Viper creates twice the power per valve! That's efficiency right there!!!!!
