I am planning on cleaning my entire engine compartment this winter. The best way would be to take off the hood. The problem is I really do not have enough room to lay it flat across saw-horses or something like that. Anyone have an idea? Hang it? I'm at a loss... Thanks.

I used my bicycle racks (the ones that are bolted in ceiling) and hung it next to the wall. It stayed there whole winter, unharmed. Bicycles got rusty though....:D

Do you remember how you hooked it and where on the hood you hooked it and how many hooks you used? Actually, a CAD diagram would really help (only kidding). Sorry about the bikes... :)

not a viper but I kept my hood on the pool table when I was working on my car. one other time I did put it on the dining room table for another project because I already had parts all over the pool table.

hahaha.. nothing witty to say to that. I bet that waxed hood would really fly down a good slope.

I bought bicycle racks with rope and small pulleys, so you can hoist it up. Bolted on the trusts, so the whole thing does not come down, since the hood is heavy....
My rack was hanging about 1/2 yard from the wall, so it was perfect since the hood is about that height. Give or take few inches.
I hung it from the 2 front loops, that lock front of the hood into the latches. In English, it was hanging nose up on the wall. only 2 hooks, the ones you put under the seat and on the handle bars. Just make sure your's is not a flimsy Chinese 3 dollar rack. Your hood is worth more than that....

I dont use the bikes anyway, beer tastes better!:2tu:

Thanks a bunch RedEnuf93! Your description sounds very clear. :) The sled idea sounds great too. With the thousand or so coats of wax on it the thing should fly like the sled Chevy Chase used in the Christmas Vacation movie. :rolaugh: The only problem is I don't want to get snow in my hood speakers! :rolaugh:

Put it outside under a tarp?

Maybe you can fit it in the garage if you stand it on end with the nose pointing up. I had one in the basement like that for months with multi-folded towels under the bottom ends
