Gen 2 pcm on a gen 1 engine

I'm finishing up putting a Gen 1 engine into a project car. I was (may still) use a Haltech or a Big stuff to control the engine. I don't want to use a Gen 1 pcm (2 pieces) but started thinking about using a gen 2 pcm. So the question is will a Gen 2 engine wireing harness and pcm work on a Gen 1 engine? This would make the install more straight forward (and no additional tuning)

In other words, doesn't the '96 Gen1 have a Gen2 PCM?

1996 Is a Gen II car. First Gen is 92-95.

Just another option, but I know of a Gen 1 using an AEM (not be the cheapest route though).

I'm not against using an AEM. I'd be curious as to how they hooked it up.

I dont think that is 100% correct. The 96 RT/10 was a GEN 1 motor, and the GTS was GEN 2 in 1996 right?

Yes, but the 96 RT/10 are OBD2 compliant while 92-95's were OBD 1. I think the 96 RT/10s PCM's were a one year deal. They control a Gen 1 engine with OBD2. A true Gen 2 PCM would control an OBD2 compliant Gen 2 engine

I understand what you are saying about the ENGINE, however, in 96 when they went to rear exit exhaust, it is denoted as Gen2 car. Just my .02

Actually....it's denoted as a Gen 1.5 Gen 2 exhaust and suspension, and maybe some more Gen 2 stuff. It has Gen 1 engine, interior, hood, dropin windows, manual door locks, etc. To me, its more of a Gen 1 than Gen 2.

AEM won't read a gen I sprocket either!!! You need a Gen II sprocket!

You'd also have to reflash the PCM for the 400hp Gen 1 engine since it's tune is for a 450hp engine. Contact DC?

Yes, you are correct, our '96's are more Gen1 appearing, with the Gen2 suspension.
The PCM controls a Gen1 engine; however, Gen2 crank and cam sensors interchange as does the MAP sensor. The Gen1 engine does have 25# injectors, where the Gen2 has 29# injectors.
As you know, we need to be somewhat careful when ordering parts to get the correct part for our '96's.
