Hello all!!! I just joined VCOA with the purchase of my first viper. It's a 2004 SRT10. Bought the ok girl and already ha a borla exhaust installed. Don't get me wrong the exhaust sounds great, but have wanted to rid of the cats for the benefit of cabin temps. Just picked up Mopar's 3 inch race system the deletes those nasty heat generators.
My purpose o his thread though is to just get a feeler of what the Borla system may be worth used and if anyone would even consider picking it up from me If I posted in the fs section.

Thanks in advance and this site I great.

First, congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club!

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that the Mopar exhaust was made by Borla, so not sure how much they'll vary. Also, cabin heat is primarily a function of the factory crossover pipe which most aftermarket catback systems eliminated. Dumping the cats will primarily just make the car louder. Nonetheless, there should be a few folks around here interested in picking up a used catback.

I also thought the Mopar race system is actually made by Borla. Your best bet is to spend a few bucks more and purchase the Corsa system and relieve yourself of the annoying drone you'll get with the Mopar system.

I thought I had read somewhere that the mopar system was made by borla as well. I think the borla system is a 2.5 inch from what I am reading and wanted a 3 inch kit because of plannin to buy and install M&M manifolds in the near future.
I knew of the crossover pipe issue, but also read that the cats cause some cabin heat as well.

I didn't notice a change in cabin temp after losing my cats, but given the occasional issues with factory cats clogging, this is definitely the time to address them. It should really roar with the new exhaust and headers. Got any pics of the new ride?

Now that you mention it, I worry a tad now about some clogged cats. It seems that the drivers side pops and gurgles more than the passenger side. Maybe thats just me because i am on that side. Let me see if i can dig up a quick picture of the car. I do not have any decent pictures yet.

Nice ride! Mine is an 03. I have deleted the primary cats on mine and went with 08 mufflers. Sounds great to me. Just a cheaper option if you are interested. Still gets hots inside. I don't think you can completely avoid the cabin heat issues with this type of car.

I think I may try to get creative with some heat reflective tape In The exhaust tunnels and see if I can help that cabin heat a tad bit

Dynamat Extreme under the carpeting helped mine a lot. Also used some exterior type aluminized self-adhesive thermal material (search Amazon) under the car in the tranny tunnel. You'll notice a little of this material OEM from the factory above the primary cats. There are also several space-age $$$ heat insulating materials now like Inconel and Aerogel that really work unbelievably well if cost is no object.
Some Viper vendor was selling full length pre-cut Inconel panels for inside the Viper side sills, but I think they were over $900.

There is a product sort of like dynamat that reduces road noise and helps keep heat out. I did my whole interior with it and my feet don't get hot anymore.

I had the Borla catback installed on my 04 and removed the rear crossover pipes. The passenger side footwell excessive heat is gone and the exhaust sounds great. I did not remove the cats.

curious if you sold your borla. I'm looking to trade mine as well
Well guys, I have bad news t report on this one. I got stiffed I think. I bought this car being told that it had a borla exhaust installed. Of course you can't see the exhaust unless you remove the side sills. I started the project this past weekend.
Needless to say, i dont want to drag out a long story. I found a big surprise.
This so called borla system happened to be a custom hack job. The owner had cut off the system with a hack saw right after the cats, and had installed mild steel straight pipes with the oem exhaust tips out of the sills. This wasn't even the worst part. Every exhaust hanger was broken, and had pop sickle sticks wedge in behind them and held up by bent clothes hangers.
You can't make this **** up. Good thing I bought the mopar system.

The guys above are correct Borla makes the Mopar set up. And this is why you should have your car checked out by experts before buying it. Popsicle sticks I love it. :crazy2:
