Gen 4 FULL Belanger set up. Opinions?

I have a new ACR and highly considering the full Belanger set up including their headers, cats, and exhaust plus the Mopar PCM (installed by my Viper tech who has done many of them). For those of you who HAVE this complete set up installed on your Gen 4, are there any negative sides that you have personally experienced such as CEL, rough running, or anything else I might need to know. Im aware its expensive and loud and thats fine but dont want issues down the road. Whats your personal results, good or bad? Thanks in advance.

While I don't have the set up in my GEN IV I had thought about doing it. You should not get any CEL's with that setup because of the MOPAR PCM.

My brother has it and it sounds great on the 09. Sounds better at idle and really barks when you put your foot in it. Cruising in 6th gear you can still hear the radio. If you want to here it he is in Sugar Land. Let me know. You will love the throttle response of the new controller. I put mine in after 2 weeks of ownership and no problems. I am looking at adding the exhaust this summer.

We have installed a few of them...:rolaugh: they are loud and deep, work very well I'm sure you will be very happy and absolutely no CEL.

I have had no problems with mine other than hearing loss. That setup is loud!

You might consider leaving the stock mufflers on as I did; apparently there is no gain in power with the belanger mufflers and the OEM are much quieter......

In some states, you will fail DMV emissions inspections. No idea about Texas.


In Texas if the car is throwing no codes or warning lights it WILL pass inspection. Texas no longer samples exhaust in the inspection stations unless your car is 1996 model or previous. So really passing inspection has nothing to do with the exhaust, just if the computer says it is OK or not. Hope this helps.

Such an improvement that I sold my supercharged car. If you are worried about codes have it done by someone who has done a couple of installs already. Because of the side exhaust it is LOUD.

There are two Belanger systems, the full Belanger with exhaust has a full section welded with cats that bolts directly to his collectors, you can only use this configuration. If you want to use the stock cat back or a Corsa you need the system with the "Corsa" hookups that we helped Lou spec out and build. :2tu:


You might consider leaving the stock mufflers on as I did; apparently there is no gain in power with the belanger mufflers and the OEM are much quieter......

I put the Belanger headers and hi-flow cats on my 09. It has thrown a code about 3 times over the course of the last 3000 miles, but I use my code reader to clear it and it is good to go. Not had a problem with state inspection if the code has been cleared for enough miles/restarts.

No to be negative (since I'd like very much to do and am always considering these mods), but since you're asking, the Mopar PCM will also eliminate all exhaust burble. Relatively minor concern, but I spend way too much time continually talking myself out of this mod and I'm eventually going to loose the argument (with myself).

Thanks Mark and others for the positive info. I noticed other threads about O2 sensors going bad after install but looks like the Mopar PCM takes care of this? What is the ball park figure I should look to pay for the entire pkg. INCLUDING labor?

Had Belanger headers, high flow Cats, Corsa exhaust, PCM and
3.55 gears istalled 2 years ago on 08. NO problems, nice mean sound.

I've got the full Belanger kit on my SSG '08. I don't have the PCM though. It is loud (not as loud as I thought it would be though), it does pop on decel (like many exhaust kits do) and it will throw a CEL if you drive for extended periods in 6th gear at highway speed. A bit more spirited driving in 5th gear and below and the problem is solved. Again though, I do not have the PCM installed on my car. I just clear the code with my code scanner when this happpens, but this is rare now because I know what type of driving style triggers it.

The ARC-X header from Badd Boyzz Garage with the stock mufflers sounds pretty damn good. Less money than the Belanger too.

I have this set up on my 08 and although the CEL is not on when they plug the state computer into it is says "Not Ready". I just put the stock PCM back in the car and drive it about 200 miles and then it passes.

All is I can say is LOUD.....had it...removed it....went back to stock and am much happier. Just a note....I drive my car long distances...like from AZ to WA and back. Also get ready to watch your gas gauge move to empty real fast.

I have the full Belanger setup on my 08 and love it.I had Woodhouse install it and this was before the PCM was available.

I throw a code 2-3 times a season and either let it work itself out by doing a little aggressive driving or I will reset it with a code reader.

I have considered installing the PCM but I am not willing to give up the deceleration gurgle by doing so.

Given the opportunity, I would do it all over again, including having Woodhouse install it.

While the thrust of this thread was about the exhaust setup, please remember to keep your stock PCM if you want to pass inspection here in Texas. The track PCM will lock out the computer they plug in to do the inspection. Generally speaking you need to swap the PCM's out and then drive 100 or so miles. Also go in with a full tank of gas, I was told this helps as well.

I'm not speaking to a universal Texas answer but this is my experience.

I just tried to state inspect the setup in question in Montgomery County last weekend. The Mopar PCM read 'not ready' on 4 different attempts. I was expecting it and swapped to the stock PCM. I'm logging 100 miles and filling up to try it again.

I haven't logged enough miles on the 08 with the stock PCM to offer an opinion on the matter. If you want to hear them both we're close to each other. Shoot me a PM.

I have the full Belanger system. I wish I would have went to the American Racing Header. Seems that there getting more Hp out of them.

From what I've read, American Racing 5 into 1 have more power on the top end and Belanger/M&M tri-y design make more power across the whole rpm range.

Did anybody watch the Speed TEST DRIVE show with Jimmy Johnson, Johnnie O'Connel, and Tommy Kendall at Carolina Motorsports park? These 3 legends in similar road-racers, at 505-700 HP, and then traded-off cars. One Hour of torque-management and HP banter, that helped the viewer understand WHY +2 or +5 HP at redline does not matter in a road-track car. Dont be romanced by 2-3 HP when you have 605+ to start!

If you are building onto a passenger-cockpit, street equipment, A/C car, destined to be below redline for 98+% of its life, when WAAAY LESS HEAT matters, and low-end and midrange grunt matters more, when ease of install matters, then Belanger is your best choice. And Stainless resonates at a higher PITCH than Belangers deep, musclecar tone = metalurgy of Aluminized steel, not stainless: Heat and Pitch. Belanger is on many Dodge Engineers and exec personal cars for a couple of good reasons. And was on the mule ACR-Xs for even more good reasons.

If you are building 25-50 SPEC-race cars, Footwell and cockpit Heat No matter, and need 25-50 quickly-built good headers, [price sensitive bid x 50 sets,] and can still meet the bar to Belangers promised HP, and maybe ADD some single-digit HPs near redline. NOTE the MoPar PCM IS REQUIRED with that X-header: Then DO CHOOSE some other brand of header than Belanger for your RACE CAR. Belangers are prohibited on ACR-X in the SPEC series. But NOT prohibited on YOUR car! Where the Mopar PCM is also OPTIONAL.

Another PS:

MK, your Oreca Clone was QUITE LOUD as I recall, sidepipes too, I last heard it in the garage at VOI-8 ! So you will recall the wail of the Belanger Full Meal deal soon enuf.

The only thing that stops me from doing this on my car is the fact that last year, I saw an 09 ACR with full Belanger exhaust and PCM put down 570-576 hp on a dyno, then a completely stock 09 ACR put down 564-566 hp on the same dyno about 15 min later. Not a good return for the money spent IMHO.
