Ok. Now I'm confused. I thought only early RTs, 92-95... were GenI. I thought every RT 10 and GTS above 1995 (1996 and later) were GenII.

And, after correcting me on the years and models... what are the differenecs in the cars? Besides Gen difference, what engine differences are there in all the model years (discluding ACR and GTSR since Im only looking GTS, and maybe RT10)

Thanks guys,

Chris

The 96 RT/10 is "unique", it has the Gen II suspension, brake booster, exhaust system, but has the Gen I engine(although 415 HP), snap in windows, and interior(however the interior is a step up from the 95 and earlier cars). Hope this helps.

Or you can do like me and buy on a whim!

Seriously though, all Vipers are awesome and easy to fall in love with. Figure out what you are looking for balancing creature comforts (electric windows) vs. cash and jump in without looking back. Just make sure you understand the history of the car you are buying and get someone mechanically inclined to check it out before you buy.

If you are into racing, skip the RT/10's. If you are a bit of a poser, nothing like going *******...

Good luck.

PS. Save some of your budget for aftermarket goodies!

Ok so hold on.... You are telling me 1996 blue GTS is different from 1997 blue GTS? Less horsepower?

So how much more would you say the 1997 is worth as of now?

No wood on the steering wheel but it is Cognac leather. Very comfortable and looks great. Can't post any pics (nowhere to host them right now) but I can email you some if you like. Send me your email address if you are interested - I'm at [email protected].

No, no. Those two have the same engine, hence same HP. The 97 RT/10s are Gen II, 450HP. So any hard top is a Gen II(450HP), and any RT/10 97 and later is a Gen II(450HP).

There's some confusion here.
To my knowledge it goes like this:

92-92, only RT/10s- Generation 1
96 RT/10s- Generation 1.5 (like 96 R/T 10 said)
96 GTS, all 97-02- Generation 2
03-+ SRT and Competition Coupe- Generation 3

'92-'95 = Gen I
'96 = Gen 1.5
'97 - '02 = Gen II
Some 96's were equipt with the Gen 2 engine - and extra 15 Hp
All '96 RT/10s had Generation 1 engine, but some Generation 2 equipment, again like 96 R/T 10 mentioned. The reason they have 15 more HP, or 415 HP, is because of the rear exiting exhaust, gave it more power. All '96 GTSs and all 97-02 Vipers have 450 HP engines (not including ACRs and GT2s which have 460 HP engines). Hope that clears it up.

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, wrong answer there buckwheat. All 96 RT/10's had the Gen I engines, but did get a bump in HP to 415 due to exhaust flowed better(or so everyone says). If you look at a Viper engine and the Alt. in in between the two TB's it is a Gen I engine. I think there are a couple(read 2) 96 RT/10's with the Gen II engines, but they were replacement engines or owner modified.

Easy on 'em, 96. It's all good. Never heard about owners with [replacing] Gen II engines in 96 RT/10s. Used to learn a Viper fact every week, now it's about every month. Thanks for the monthly factoid.

Hey Viperzilla,
I was just kidding with the youngster. I saw one of the cars one Ebay, engine was a Gen II. What would be the resale on something like that later down the road? I mean, it is not factory, so would it be worth less because if that? Or more because it has more power? Interesting.................................................................... :)
