Here's my thread on the cat removal... Best thing you can do. The car sounds just amazing and it is so much more comfortable without those kilns blasting heat at you on both sides of the car. As much as I love my GTS and as long as I waited to get it I really wasn't sure I did the right thing. No looking back now with the cats gone. I love the way my car sounds now... It's like a 747 when you let the gass off. Plum's car sounds just sick...It's amazing...

Hey V10, I remember reading your thread. So, you're in NJ and I know that your emissions testing is similar to CT. So what happens when you have to do your emissions? The situation I don't want is to spend the money to eliminate the cats and then end up not being able to pass emissions!:nono:

Also, not to be a pain, but do you have any sound clips of your car without the cats? Would be cool too, if you have a clip of before you pulled them out...as a comparison.

Thanks much!:headbang:

I have a NJ collector registration for under 3k a year so I just go every two years and they check the mileage. No I haven't made a sound clip yet. It's looking like a stellar weekend weather wise so I may get the car out. Plum says no problem smogging in NJ and his car is heavily modded and a bit louder than mine.

Not sure how far you are from me but maybe a few of us could meet up this weekend for a cruise.

That would be cool, but unfortunately have family stuff all weekend. Managed to free up some time for next Sunday to go to Splash if you're interested. Its in Westport...might be a bit of a ride for you guys from Jersey, but that's my perspective (RT is more of a garage queen).:eater:

On sound, I don't mind loud, as long as there is a motor to back it up. Fortunately, the stock cam in the '98 is pretty rough at idle sounds good. I'm sure it would sound better/meaner if I added headers as well, but don't think that I will be doing that. So my quandry, other than emissions, is will the car sound mean without cats seeing as it will be lightly modded at best.:dunno:

Thanks and helpful discussion.:2tu:

i'm have stock headers, roe metal substrate h/f cats and a roe 93 sct tune, and heat (much less than stock though) do you think i am running rich :dunno:

Impossible to tell (at least impossible for me to tell from here). I would imagine that if your sill temps went down, you're OK, even if they're still hot. Usually rich runs cooler than lean.

Yeah, my popping under decel increased too.....also very noticeable flames under hard decel even with rear exhaust. I'm sick, I like those effects....:lmao:

Nice thread on your exhaust project. When I hear certain motors that are catless, I think wow that's very cool. But then, these particular cars seem to have moderate to heavy nods- cam, rr's, some sc'd, headers and so on. My concern with doing it to my RT, is that I do not plan to do most of these mods and then, to me, it would just sound like an overly loud car" that needs a muffler".
