A friend of mine overseas has a 1000HP TT 06. He also put a gen4 tranny in his car. After 2000 miles and one 1/4 miles run his tranny is making hissing sounds.

Tranny got disassembled and - 1st and 2nd gears gone (very very worked up), 3rd looking so so and 4th, 5th and 6th ok. I've tried to explain to him that - perhaps - they designed Gen4 tranny to shift better which would come with a 650+- HP and torque limit and that I didn't hear about other TT owners busting their Gen3 trannys but these are of course only my speculations. I only have 550HP Gen3 with Full Belanger so I have no clue about 1000HP TT cars internals.

Could anyone with experience and knowledge shed light on this issue?

The TR6060 should certainly have a higher torque capacity than any T-56. It is a similar design, but has better synchros, wider/stronger gears, and is stronger in general. Since it is so similar to the T-56, it is comparing apples to apples. All things being equal, it SHOULD hold up better. On that note, I have seen $6K G-Force transmissions fail, and stock transmissions last years at extreme power levels- sometimes there is no rhyme or reason for certain failures.

Lost second gear in a beefed up T-56 a couple of months ago in my Paxton car, 900+ rwhp, 860+ rwtq. Sheared the teeth off of both gears in the second gear set.

With sticky tires (Nitto NT05R drag radials), a Spec stage 3+ clutch set, a Quaife diff, upgraded half shafts, the trans became the "fuseable" link.

Searching for a stronger alternative without speeding 6K or more as they can fail too.

Considering trying the new TR6060 trans as it shifts soooo smoothly in my 09 ACR and should be stronger. Will likely go to slightly less sticky tires to protect the driveline. Those Nittos really stick.

I'd guess that under the wrong conditions, most manual transmissions could have trouble with 1000 hp.

There is a procedure called shot ball peening which allegedly strengthens transmissions. I recently had same done to my TR6060 when I had an upgraded second gear synchro pack installed and a .8 fifth and .63 sixth gear. Perhaps Dan above or others who might be familiar with the effectiveness of shot ball peening can comment about it.

Here is the Wikipedia link discussing the process:

I'm told that a kit is available and there is a Mopar part number. Kit includes the TR6060 trans plus shorter drive shaft, likely some u-joint straps.

Swap should be fairly straight forward.

I was talking about this to john about the TR6060...he said something
about cryogenic hardening the gears or something and he has a guy that drags his car and it was holding up.
Might want to ask him as this is his specialty.
It was awhile ago but he is the man to ask.

See post number 5. John is the person who modified my transmission.
